From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Friday, January 10, 2014. Happy New Year - candid assessment and slow progress at 8 months. Almost 8 months of being a cyborg. This is a wild ride! I am still getting used to this crazy mechanical hearing. Some days are frustrating; other moments are encouraging. After 48 years with almost no sound, my brain is basically learning the 5th sense of hearing from scratch. The dog's toenails or metal tags are clicking.

From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Tuesday, September 30, 2014. At the September meeting of the Western Colorado chapter of HLAA (Hearing Loss Association of America), Candace Alder gave an excellent explanation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) plus our responsibility for personal advocacy. Candace emphasized two main points:. Our job is to be polite and persistent and eventually changes will happen which benefit us and others. I) employment...

From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Friday, June 20, 2014. Numbers and patterns are fascinating! Here are 8 audiograms to compare the changes in my hearing over time - without hearing aids, with one analog hearing aid, and now with 2 cochlear implants. At age 2 (initial diagnosis at Johns Hopkins Hospital, 1967). And ages 10, 19 and 48 - without hearing aids. At age 48 just before cochlear implant surgery - WITH my Oticon P38 analog hearing aid, and.

From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Tuesday, November 19, 2013. 6-month update - bits of progress and funny photos. I really appreciate my husband's patience and encouragement as I sort out my equipment and new hearing. To be reminded "It will get better.". I am 6 months post-activation and I can see progress. Many of us cyborgs exchange regular texts and e-mails, and I learn something new every day from online CI forums and facebook groups. I would ...

From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Monday, August 18, 2014. AWESOME new lighting for deck. My husband surprised me in June with this AWESOME canopy. What's the big deal? The little lights are solar-powered and come on automatically at dusk, providing just. The right amount of light for lipreading. We can enjoy the sunset and I can see to keep visiting! Katherine C. said. August 20, 2014 at 11:19 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Monday, August 18, 2014. 2014 HLAA convention - Austin, Texas. The 2014 HLAA Convention in Austin, Texas was wonderful. I meet old friends and make new ones every time. We learn so much from sharing life experiences, comparing and trying new equipment, joining a variety of workshops, and just talking freely and LAUGHING for 3 whole days. As a friend says, "This is my tribe! You will be amazed at the difference. In the ...

From Silence to Sound : May 2014
http://silencetosoundblog.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
From Silence to Sound. Two cochlear implants after being profoundly deaf all my life . Friday, May 16, 2014. One year since activation! It does get better. Tomorrow marks one year since my cochlear implant activation. Today was a good day. I heard and recognized several new things for the first time, including my own name. My cochlear implant hearing is now creeping toward becoming 'familiar' like my trusty hearing aid was. Fine-tuning each mapping requires time, repeated appointments, and practice.
