InBabyAttachMode: A high-impact paper from your post-doc
http://babyattachmode.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-high-impact-paper-from-your-post-doc.html
About being a post-doc, babywearing and everything in between. Wednesday, August 1, 2012. A high-impact paper from your post-doc. So I started off like crazy: learning a new technique, trying to get stuff going as fast as I can. But as I’ve written before; I started to feel a bit unhappy about the whole thing. And now I don’t know if it is going to happen: am I getting data that are interesting and sexy enough for that high-impact paper? August 1, 2012 at 10:56 AM. 27 and a PhD. August 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
InBabyAttachMode: The idea-for-an-experiment generator
http://babyattachmode.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-idea-for-experiment-generator.html
About being a post-doc, babywearing and everything in between. Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Yesterday, Scicurious wrote a very honest post. About how she thought that she didn't have enough ideas to write grants and stay in academic science. This is something that I hear around me every now and then (mostly from women). I have given this some thought before. How brilliant do your ideas have to be? Life in the lab. January 21, 2014 at 6:53 AM. This made me smile, and probably isnt far from the truth.
InBabyAttachMode: On paid parental leave
http://babyattachmode.blogspot.com/2013/05/on-paid-parental-leave.html
About being a post-doc, babywearing and everything in between. Tuesday, May 21, 2013. On paid parental leave. I have argued before that it would be nice if post-docs would get paid maternity leave. I didn't realize then that this should be the case for the entire workforce. I didn't know that actually the US is one out of 8 countries in the world that do not have paid parental leave. Here is an interesting infographic on all the benefits that paid parental leave has for both mom, dad and baby:.

On luck, jobs and getting what you “deserve” | The Spandrel Shop
http://proflikesubstance.scientopia.org/2013/02/07/on-luck-jobs-and-getting-what-you-deserve
On luck, jobs and getting what you "deserve". Feb 07 2013 Published by proflikesubstance. I'm behind on just about everything recently, so why should blogging be any different? For work related reasons I haven't been able to keep on top on internet goings-ons, so only briefly saw a flurry of activity on twitter around the #postdocalypse hashtag. Since I missed the origin and reason, it looked like the typical venting of the postdocalytes, which, sure, I get it. It's a stressful time. Going to help your e...

How to Build a Neuron. Saturday, February 15, 2014. A Hop, Skip, and a pre-synaptic Patch. This new technique is just too cool not to blog about. Novak et al. 2013. Figure 1A pre-synaptic patch clamp. Is the connection between two neurons. The pre-synaptic part is from the neuron sending. A signal and the post-synaptic part is from the neuron receiving. Or sharp electrode recording, but it is much much harder (basically impossible until now) to record from the pre-synaptic side. But Novak et al. Goes up ...
The Cellular Scale: It takes a semester just to graduate
http://cellularscale.blogspot.com/2013/12/it-takes-semester-just-to-graduate.html
How to Build a Neuron. Monday, December 9, 2013. It takes a semester just to graduate. When my advisor told me that it takes a semester just to graduate, she seriously wasn't kidding. To graduate this December, I had to have everything signed and turned in on December 6th. Doesn't sound so bad, right? But that basically means I have to defend in November. And my college/department has a mandatory pre-defense. Which must be a MONTH before the real defense. Thus the pre-defense must occur in October .

The Cellular Scale: When being mean is actually being nice ... and when it is just being mean
http://cellularscale.blogspot.com/2014/02/when-being-mean-is-actually-being-nice.html
How to Build a Neuron. Wednesday, February 5, 2014. When being mean is actually being nice . and when it is just being mean. It's a harsh world in here, in academia. We all already know that academic science is not a carebear teaparty. Now things are worse than ever as far as potential jobs for Ph.D.s and funding. A brief interruption, for an ad:. The Cellular Scale: Place cells: The importance of Patching

How to Build a Neuron. Saturday, April 14, 2012. Place cells: The importance of Patching. A place cell fires in one particular spot. Place cells are neurons in the hippocampus that fire when an animal is in a particular location. Like many other cases where a neuron activates in response to something specific. The question everyone wants to answer is 'why does the neuron fire at that particular spot? Place cell recording set up ( Rotenberg. Et al, 1996). Epsztein et al.,. Epsztein et al., 2011 Fig 5.

Blog CV / About me. Foreign Post-doc in US. May 5, 2014 · 6:23 am. I have moved to Scientopia. Not too long ago, when I was all busy moving across the Atlantic anyway, I finally took the time to move my blogspot blog. I didn’t hesitate for too long. I decided to leave all my posts up until now here, and just start new at Scientopia. The content will be similar though: my quest for grant money and a position as a scientist, babywearing* and all the stuff in between. So please follow me to my new blog.

My kids will eventually kill me. The best laid plans. I did have every intention of blogging austin as it happened, but.well. So day 2. and this sucks because now I have to remember. okaaayyyyy, did I tell you about the alamo? Going back to the earlier part of the day, I woke up and went over to a local salon and had a massage. it was only a half an hour and I told nicole that massages actually can make me tense up.
