Monday, April 14, 2008. Corrupt WMI - How to recreate on Windows 2003. Today I found an unusual issue on a server. Our monitoring server that gathers data from wmi performance counters on client servers was failing to retrieve value. I looked at firewall ports, evenlogs etc and could not find the problem. Here are some uselfull commands I ran. Still did not recreate the WMI counters so I proceeded to issue this command. This lead me to the WMIDIAG utility. Cscript WMIDiag.vbs CheckConsistency.

Thursday, August 21, 2008. Corrupt WMI - Post2. In my first post I showed some basic steps to get WMI running again. I ran into a situation where my suggestion would not fix my WMI errors. The problem, I had was that all access to WMI would produce "WMI Initialization error". Thus I know I needed something else. However when I read the log after running WMIDiag - "cscript WMIDiag CheckConsistency" it suggested that I recompile all the MOF. Cd /d c: temp. If not exist %windir% system32 wbem goto TryInstall.
