My Back 40 (Feet)

My Back 40 (Feet). We just got back from Lana'i. Would you like to see some pictures? After this, we only have one more Hawaiian island to visit (Moloka'i) before we've seen all of the inhabited ones (unless you count Niihau, which is generally off limits. But Guy wants to go). Small and rather undeveloped, Lana'i is not a popular destination but we've had it on the to-do list for years. I woke up for the sunrise every day. It looked like this. A moonscape on the island's north. Named for the wreck of an...

My Back 40 (Feet): July 2014

http://back40feet.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

My Back 40 (Feet). Everyday sights in Bernal Heights. I don't get to do this much anymore - walk around my neighborhood. Because I work all the time. Well, it's nice to be wanted (for work). Up to a point. And then, blech. Looks particularly good around town right now. Windy is good for laundry. This house looks like it needs some love (or rather some money. Some money-love), but the weedy fennel invariably growing in front of it every spring and summer always catches my eye. And so does this brugmansia.

My Back 40 (Feet): November 2012

http://back40feet.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

My Back 40 (Feet). Everyday sights in Bernal Heights. Ugh I worked all day. Today I went for a walk (and worked some more when I got home). It was summer-like, and got hotter as the day wore on. One of many bougainvillea/pelargonium mash-ups in my neighborhood I could point you to:. We put a bid on this house before we got the house we own. It has very little yard, and I'm glad we didn't get it. I would never have become a gardener, and I wouldn't know any of you. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). UC Davis Goo...

My Back 40 (Feet): June 2012

http://back40feet.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

My Back 40 (Feet). Tropical Topics: Return to the Moir Garden. We saw this aloe garden before, in full sun, back in 2010. This time we had some cloud cover. I can really appreciate this garden's of overgrown, over-planted, over-the-top succulent stylings.but I have to say it looks better in photography than it does in real life. Some gardens are just like that. Mine. Is like that. What makes that happen? Is it the framing? Selective editing the zoom? It's an alien landscape. Lava rock walls point the way.

My Back 40 (Feet): March 2013

http://back40feet.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

My Back 40 (Feet). Back in the garden again. My garden is still a thing. It's getting to be springtime so it's fun to take pictures again. All the plants are getting so big. I prune and prune, but you would never know. The buckeye, pruned every winter to keep it shrub sized, is leafing out. Some flowers would be nice. It has never flowered. It's my curse to want flowers and get foliage, foliage, foliage. Well, here are some flowers, on Cestrum elegans. Winter in retreat at Filoli today. Too soon for tuli...

Faire Garden: Veggie Harvest

http://fairegarden.blogspot.com/2008/07/veggie-harvest.html

Friday, July 4, 2008. Seeds were sown in May outside of zuchinni Eight Ball. This is a tasty and fun shaped variety. We have harvested several of these round beauties already. Another squash, Magda, has been bearing well also. This is a new variety, from Park seed, that was recommended in a talk that. Perennial pepper. Click. To read that story. It is back and some of the volunteers have flowers already. The little orange balls look good with the fall foliage. Besides the onions from seed, which are stil...

Weeder's Garden: January 2012

http://weedersgarden.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 09, 2012. Let's try this again. (first time I tried this nothing happened. Maybe now it will post twice. Or not at all.) I have been down and out for the past 5 days with a nasty cold/sinus infection. I don't get sick often but seem to do a really good job of it when I do. Somewhere under the dog and the cat is I. Felt almost human this afternoon so wandered outside with my camera and found this lovely grouping. Nobody was picking on Eyelean! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Weeder's Garden: July 2011

http://weedersgarden.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 22, 2011. Though this is growing in the above ground tin pond and doesn't seem to mind wet feet, I don't think it is any sort of bog plant. Is it one of the gazillion campanulas? Links to this post. Thursday, July 14, 2011. Bee Balm and unknown. Finally found the tag for this beautiful Bee Balm. The doe ate everything last year (and 8 years before) and the tags have been misplaced. I miss Doereen but not her appetite! Links to this post. What is attacking my prickly pear? Weeder's Garden: blue fish planters

http://weedersgarden.blogspot.com/2012/03/blue-fish-planters.html

Wednesday, March 07, 2012. I couldn't help myself. One fish came home with me last Wednesday. Friday morning found me picking up its pal as well. Couldn't have just one! Besides, they had been in the same display at the nursery. I love happy reunions. They've both been planted with Mexican feather grass and string-of-pearls. (Photos soon) I'm so happy to have them because I've recently (since then) been admonished to un-pot most everything else and. Plant it in the ground. Those fish do look potted!

Gardening in My Rubber Boots. Ramblings of a waterlogged Seattle area gardener and wannabe urban farmer. Garden Tours and Travel. Around the “Farm”. Posts from the ‘Around the “Farm”’ Category. Took a rainy walk around the garden today and found some color to help brighten up the gray day. It’s Pond Clean-up Weather. Here’s the pond last summer — hidden under the grass in the lower right. I’d prefer we fill up the pond and enjoy it. Then hand pull any new grass starts that pop-up. I’m...I’m a Wimp. The l...
