Bagby Hot Springs and Shower Creek. New Hikes and Destinations. Summer came late and there was a lot going on, but we have a few awesome destinations that we've weighed in on. For hiking, we were particularly impressed with a couple trips that were not far from the Portland metro area:. Was a great short hike with stunning views. We camped at Elk Lake. Was another short hike about an hour from town. Last, but not least, Opal Creek. Was an exquisite creekside hike in the Willamette National Forest.
