Backpacking with Boo: June 2013
http://backpackingwithboo.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Dairy-free backpacking with kid(s). Sunday, June 23, 2013. Spicy Peanut Butter Soup for Backpacking. Our planned trip got cancelled, but we still cooked like we were on the trail, and tried a new recipe: Spicy Peanut Butter Soup. Most commercial soup mixes have dairy, msg or both which don't work for us, so I've been experimenting with creating our own. Soup mix, Pretzel rolls and water. Combine powder and water. Spicy Peanut Butter Soup for Backpacking. 1 large onion grated. 1-2 TBS vegetable oil. With ...
Backpacking with Boo: Pincushion Mountain and Devil Track River. Superior Hiking Trail. August 6-7, 2015

Dairy-free backpacking with kid(s). Saturday, August 22, 2015. Pincushion Mountain and Devil Track River. Superior Hiking Trail. August 6-7, 2015. The regular crew is 3 adults (me, Lee, DvA) and 3 kids (Boo - 7yo, R- 8yo, and J - almost 12). It's my first trip with R, since the 2 or 3 overnights she's been on were all after I wrecked my back and wasn't hiking. The "completely exhausted, couldn't take another step" kids clambered down to the river and spent some time throwing rocks, building dams, and in ...
Backpacking with Boo: September 2015
http://backpackingwithboo.blogspot.com/2015_09_01_archive.html
Dairy-free backpacking with kid(s). Sunday, September 13, 2015. After our last trip, we've been making a concerted effort to get our (my) stamina back to something reasonable. We've added a weekday training hike. Often with packs, but not when its stupid hot or when we're all exhausted. An exhausted hike looks like: I'm not the only one tying my shoes partway in for once! And a lengthy stop at the lake to poke in the mud and admire the sunset. But even that's better than I could manage a year ago. Any yo...
Backpacking with Boo: August 2013

Dairy-free backpacking with kid(s). Friday, August 23, 2013. Exploring a San Diego Canyon. We recently visited my sister, brother-in-law, and baby nephew in San Diego, CA. We went to see the baby and visit, not to disappear into the wilderness, but we did manage a couple excursions. She loved scrambling around with no need to stay on a defined trail. This tree she thought would make an awesome house. How much outdoor time do you get on family trips? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Backpacking with Boo: July 2013
http://backpackingwithboo.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Dairy-free backpacking with kid(s). Sunday, July 14, 2013. A Wet Night in North Carolina (Part 3 of 3). Monday-Tuesday, July 2-3, 2013. Pisgah National Forest. Black Balsam, through Graveyard Fields, to the Skinny-dip Falls Trailhead. It was still raining in the morning. Even though I had been careful, my bag got wet. Wet legs? On the tent. We took a picture of its shadow, but we never got a look at it. Eventually the rain let up enough that we got out of the tent to start breakfast. Breakfast helped, bu...

Center Stage Wellness San Diego Healthy Life Coach. Alcoholic Root Beer Float. From my health coaching practice and this blog people seem to think that I subsist on kale, chia seeds, and essence of unicorn mixed into my green juice. And that’s absolutely true. 8230;Oh wait, no. As of this writing, the staple of my diet for the last few months has been trail mix. It’s getting better, but just recently. I would love to eat more kale, chia seeds, and green juice. Unicorn essence isn’t vegetarian. I used roo...

A Resource for Families Who Explore Wild Places Together. Newer posts →. December 21, 2012. We finally got some snow Tuesday night! It’s about time! At about 10 pm, we got an automated phone call telling us there would be no school Wednesday. So the kids and I had a good old fashioned snow day, complete with shoveling, snow ball fights, sledding, and hot cocoa made the old fashioned way with real milk. Here are some photos for you to enjoy. Merry Christmas! December 21, 2012. When you think about it, it ...

Oh. Yeah. This. | The Sartorial Butch

A peek into the closet and mind of a slightly narcissistic yet always well dressed homo. Laquo; Tie model contest! Oh Yeah. This. Ok It’s been over a year for anything to show up here. This is so not acceptable but here’s the truth. I’m tired. Life is so amazing, hard, and incredible, but becoming a parent has become the hardest and most rewarding job I’ve ever had. I know that people say that all the time but I think they do because it’s absolutely true. That said, this coming weekend I have the honor o...
