Backyard Biointensive: August 2013
http://www.backyardbiointensive.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Highly efficient, biointensive mini farming. Wednesday, August 28, 2013. I like to save seed. There's just so many reasons to save the seed from what we grow, reasons I'll go into in another post someday soon. But sometimes, you don't get what you thought you were going to get. The Latin name of most varieties of orange pumpkin is Cucurbita pepo. In my research, I found a paper published by Purdue University stating that those two species can hybridize. Backyard Biointensive: "Automatic" maggot feeder for chickens
http://www.backyardbiointensive.blogspot.com/2014/06/automatic-maggot-feeder-for-chickens.html
Highly efficient, biointensive mini farming. Friday, June 13, 2014. Automatic" maggot feeder for chickens. How about a quick, easy, nearly free and slightly smelly way to supplement the fat and protein in your chickens' diet while giving them a treat? I started doing this last year after getting the idea somewhere (I can't remember where, I'm sorry, I wish I could give credit where it is due. Really), and though I wouldn't do this if I had really close, or picky neighbors, it's worked great for us. 1 If ...
Backyard Biointensive: December 2014
http://www.backyardbiointensive.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Highly efficient, biointensive mini farming. Friday, December 19, 2014. Gardening is big. And getting bigger. This is a great thing, really. Fresh food grown at home, no mysteries, loaded with good stuff and tastier than anything in just about any store. What's not to like? Oh, gardens are also big. There's no reason that this should leave anyone out of the fun, though. It's not necessary to have 1/4 acre of yard to till up just to grow your own veggies. Because. buckets! So where does that leave us?

Backyard Biointensive: Old Tires as Garden Containers?
http://www.backyardbiointensive.blogspot.com/2014/04/old-tires-as-garden-containers.html
Highly efficient, biointensive mini farming. Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Old Tires as Garden Containers? I like to talk about gardening, plans for gardens, methods, etc. I talk to pretty much anyone who will listen. I learn this way. I talk about my thoughts and it helps me make them more coherent. I talk about others' thoughts and I pick up new ideas for how to do things. No, they aren't. And they suck. Tell me how this is better than just putting them in the ground? Photo Credit: Tony Buser. Highly efficient, biointensive mini farming. Friday, June 19, 2015. The Homestead Garden - Efficiency and Production. For your average person, though, a garden is a place where they grow some stuff, usually vegetables, that they eat some of and give most of away because they don't know what to do with way too much of something. We'll all meet someone trying to give away a bucket of massive zucchini, sooner or later. Well there's a few reasons. Every bit of soil that's not growing a plant is lost spac...
