Bacon Caffeine = Awesome! Since the first batch went off so well, it’s time to try to get the mix right…. The saltiness was a little bit much, so cut the salt content of the curing mix and to get rid of the caffeine tang, another flavour (as well as the molasses) will be added. Luckily, a friend has requested a load for a camping holiday over the bank holiday and he suggested that he’d want to try the Marmite flavour, so poll aside, Marmite flavoured caffeinated bacon it is! 900ml of cold water.

Bacon Caffeine = Awesome! Caffeinated Bacon, The Next Generation…. So… I’d say about a 90% success. The taste and heart palpitations are a bit of an issue, but that can be overcome. Obviously, this is a trail and error process, but I’ve learnt some valuable lessons for batch 2. Namely, less caffeine and more flavouring. Maybe liquid smoke instead of molasses. Maybe next time as well, I shall attempt to make streaky (read: American style) bacon as well as proper (read English style) bacon. 22 March, 2010.

Bacon Caffeine = Awesome! One day to B-Day…. The excitement is palpable. I have no idea if the bacon will absorb the caffeine, or even if it does, how it’ll affect the taste. I can only hope that the former works and the latter isn’t too bad…. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow. 19 March, 2010. You should remove the bacon from the container, stir the mix again (to ensure that the salt and caffeine are properly dissolved) and replace the bacon the other way around to ensure that all surfaces absorb the mix.
