Bronze's Mississippi Expedition Log. Here are some topics that I considered at great length, which may be an aid to your own planning. How Long Will It Take? The river is 2,340 miles. 1,206 to St Louis; and another 1,134 to the Gulf. I estimated the current to be 1.5 mph above St Louis and 3.5 mph below. You’ll have to do the math based on your own paddling speed, but I think it’s safe to assume 1.5 months to reach St Louis, and another month to the gulf. Told me to expect the river to be free of ice, an...

Bronze's Mississippi Expedition Log. The Mississippi River, Father of Waters, Big Muddy. Named from the Ojibwe. On its 493 mile journey from Lake Itasca to Upper Saint Anthony’s Falls in Minneapolis, the river passes 12 dams, and 10 lakes. Starting at this dam, a system of locks is employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers which allows for tugs and barges to travel the river from St Paul to the Gulf. The Mississippi has now become a major waterway. February 4, 2013 at 7:21 pm. Log in to Reply.

Bronze's Mississippi Expedition Log. Images that stuck out to me along the river. Interesting abandoned structures and riverside wrecks. I saw a lot of intriguing homes on the river, from mansions to shacks. Here were some of my favorites. Animals were far and few between the further south I traveled, but here were a few I managed to capture. Some of the places I bedded down. The first community along the Mississippi. A recreation of a North Woods logging camp. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Bronze's Mississippi Expedition Log. In 2006 I spent my summer vacation backpacking along the railroads of Northern Virginia, making a tramp tour of some of the most significant Civil War battlefields in the nation. In 2008 I attempted to sail from Capetown, South Africa to Brazil. In 2009, I set out on the Pacific Crest Trail with a pack mule and nothing but 19. Century equipment; the journals for this expedition can be found here. For 2010, I finally wised up why not let the elements work for me!

Bronze's Mississippi Expedition Log. October 8, 2010–French Quarter, New Orleans. October 8, 2010. My long sought goal achieved! I lack for words to describe the satisfaction and joy. Very eager and excited all day, I pushed on without pause, eating my lunch aboard the kayak so as not. On the Waterfront 1. On the Waterfront 2. As the river bent north to begin the crescent shape from which the city takes it nickname, I could at last behold with my own eyes the final destination! New Orleans is an incredib...

Bronze's Mississippi Expedition Log. The soundtrack of music that would accompany me down the river became a crucial component of my planning for this trip. In fact, I probably spent more time compiling the perfect selection of albums which would complement the regions through which I traveled than I did on the other various planning areas. Here is a list of what I would consider essential artists or albums for a trip down the Mississippi:. Another Sun Records alum, too many great albums to list. 8211;&#...
