Our precint met in a large room with several other precincts. The party organizers who were able to maintain some semblence of control said they sat out three times as many chairs than they did four years ago but there still weren't enough seats for everybody. The Baker-White Experience: It's a bird . . . it's a plane . . .
http://baker-white.blogspot.com/2009/01/its-bird-its-plane.html
Featuring - The Misadventures of Linus The Spotted Dog. Saturday, January 10, 2009. It's a bird . . . it's a plane . . . After Abel Tasman we headed southwest to Westport on the west coast of the south island. Along the way we stopped in Murchison for some whitewater rafting on the Buller River. After the rafting we stopped a road side attraction involving New Zealand's longest swingbridge and a Flying Fox. A Flying Fox is a zipline across the gorge. Now it's time for Eric's impression of Superman.

False Reckonings: December 2007
http://moldyedamame.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 13, 2007. Sunday, September 16, 2007. Today started out cool and bright, so we decided to take an early bike ride up to East Rock. Anticipating that we would spend several hours in front of the television in the midafternoon, watching Green Bay play the Giants in New York. It was such a clear day we could see not only Long Island, but the bluffs and buildings on the other side of the Sound:. Posted by Hannah L @ 4:21 PM. Saturday, September 08, 2007. Thursday, February 28, 2008. The Civic Duty Thing. Warning: this gets sanctimonious and ranty. I did my first stint today as a citizen judge in New Haven Superior Court. Having been called to jury duty twice before in Illinois and once served on a criminal trial, I was a little surprised to see so much grumbling so close to the birthplace of American Democracy. Don't like to be bothered? Don't you care that yours is a community where these kinds of things happen to children? I just hope that when the tim...
False Reckonings: March 2008

Sunday, March 30, 2008. What Is the Deal With Passport Photos? I mean, honestly. Posted by Hannah L @ 1:53 PM. Saturday, March 15, 2008. Bicycle Parts and Tote Bags. So I've been giving a lot of thought to cynicism, as I often get stuck in its sway. I don't know if it will work, but I'm going to make an effort to be less cynical. It can't hurt. Edginess is overrated. And those are my hopeful thoughts for today. Posted by Hannah L @ 1:50 PM. Blogs of Our Fathers. Cooking with Two Dudes. In Search of Snow.
False Reckonings: January 2008

Monday, January 21, 2008. Winter in Southern New England. How could we be duped again by the meteorologist hucksters? It never gets cold or snows here. But I'm glad we didn't. The next morning a cold snap moved through. Hallelujah! Cold and snow. Yay. We only had to drive a little over two hours to get it. I guess I can quit whining. Posted by Hannah L @ 3:42 PM. This last cameraless month made both of us (yes, even the inventor of "I just hate having my picture taken" himself) realize how much we like l...
False Reckonings: August 2007
http://moldyedamame.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 29, 2007. The Oldest Turkeys in America. I spent much of July reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. A chapter I particularly enjoyed, though, with nary a raised hackle, described Kingsolver's attempts to raise a breeding flock of turkeys. According to Kingsolver, the vast majority of turkeys raised in the United States are hatched in the early spring, raised to have such enormous breasts that they cannot actually walk (not a problem in factory farms, where they can't move anyway! Behind u...

Sunday, April 20, 2008. Praise the Lord for PowerPoint. Unable to take the cabin fever after a particularly long and hideous Wisconsin winter, my mother visited this past weekend to see some cherry blossoms, nesting bald eagles, and revolutionary war skirmish sites. What better way to welcome the spring? We started off her visit in Northampton, Massachusetts, intending to make our way to the National Yiddish Book Center. The name of the town was changed to help forget the disgrace of the attack. The ...
False Reckonings: September 2005

Saturday, September 24, 2005. Our New Jersey weekend getaway started out in Brooklyn. Spooky gave us a warm welcome (well, in her own way. And by warm I mean the kind where you don't get up from where you're sitting, regard your visitors with indifference, and don't acknowledge their super cool present of two sparkly toys). Air-conditioned) and an exhibit of Russian art from the Orthodox inconographic paintings of the 15th Century to modern stuff just opening that day (and enticingly named RUSSIA! Mansfi...

Monday, May 26, 2008. Who is this handsome devil you ask? Why Kevin O'Briant ( the. Kevin O'Briant), my old roomie from Humboldt Park days. I had the pleasure of seeing him in Washington, D.C. this weekend. I am posting his photo here purely as punishment for calling my blog lame. The same thing could happen to you, so watch it. Posted by Hannah L @ 8:07 PM. Saturday, May 17, 2008. 1/3 cup well-stirred tahini (Middle Eastern sesame paste). 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. Sunday, May 11, 2008.

Sunday, October 28, 2007. She assembled the aforementioned herbs in the service of a delicious Pumpkin Stuffed with Vegetable Stew. Found in this month's issue of Gourmet. And yes, the pumpkin pictured met its maker shortly after this picture was taken (I never said this wasn't a snuff blog). We recommend this stew highly, particularly if you have 7 hours hanging heavy on your hands, and a bunch of leftover celeriac and fennel bulbs laying around for which you have no other use.
