Montevideo is a very laid back sort of city compared to BA. in uruguay 80% of the people are of spanish or italian descent. the family still reigns supreme. there are nice plazas with plenty of seats. every day presents small and large challenges. ask john about the 104 bus, where and how to catch it. on the first day it took 1hr. 3 days later 5 mins. Asuncion the capital was abit like Bangcok except that everyone speaks spanish. every day one sees the rich in their mercedes changing wads of bank notes in the streets (bypassing the banking system). then one sees the areas called "miserias" right in the heart of the city where houses are made of cardboard, wood and corrugated iron. shacks little better than fowl houses.
