8230;and other things I love to do. February 20, 2015. Kifle (sing. kifla) are one of the most popular Bosnian breakfast breads. In the US kifle are known as a Christmas pastry filled with walnuts, but in Bosnia, kifle are actually any type of bread or pastry made in a shape of a crescent and today I wanted to introduce the most loved and known kind. 650-700 g (about 5 cups) all purpose flour. 1 envelope active dry yeast. 300 ml (1 1/4 cup) warm water. 200 ml (about 1 cup) warm milk. 50 ml (1/4 cup) oil.

8230;and other things I love to do. March 29, 2012. September 26, 2012. And neighboring countries phyllo dough (orignally jufka – read yoofkah) is often made for pastries such as pita/burek. Even though phyllo can be bought at the store or bakery, fresh, homemade phyllo is always the best! In the past it was very desirable for a young woman to know how to make jufka. Often after a girl learned how to make phyllo, family members would jokingly say “Well now you CAN get married! Also, there are different w...

8230;and other things I love to do. Beef Stew with Rutabaga. February 19, 2015. February 19, 2015. You will notice this not being a conventional way of preparing a stew (no meat searing); still it works wonderfully and the end result is an amazing combination of tender beef, delicious vegetable and hearty soup. Beef Stew with Rutabaga. 2 TBSP cooking oil (I use sunflower). 1 small onion (finely chopped). 3 garlic cloves (minced). 1 medium carrot (chopped). 1 medium parsnip (chopped). 1 tsp Vegeta spice.

Korena in the Kitchen. July 24, 2015. By Korena in the Kitchen. So… it’s been a while. I wish I could say I’ve been too busy vacationing or holidaying to post anything, but I’ve just been working and unmotivated to blog. I actually made this cake for my birthday (32! Over the world, thanks to the smoke from all those fires settling over Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. It was the strangest light for taking photos, so please excuse if the pictures look a little weird. So I combined the two into a ...

Korena in the Kitchen. Cream Cheese Swiss Meringue Buttercream Frosting, Take 2: Success! March 28, 2013. By Korena in the Kitchen. Almost two years ago, I made a wedding cake. For my good friend and frosted it with cream cheese Swiss meringue buttercream. The cake turned out great, but the frosting was another story. Turns out that cream cheese doesn’t work so well as a replacement for butter, which I realized after having made two giant batches of frosting, posting about it. For example, the SMBC recip...

Korena in the Kitchen. The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie. May 5, 2015. By Korena in the Kitchen. I’ve been looking for the “perfect” chocolate chip cookie for about as long as I’ve been baking cookies. What I wanted was a fairly straight-forward method that didn’t involve a complete re-design of the chocolate chip cookie. Or an overnight rest in the fridge. Because when I want chocolate chip cookies, I want them. Good to the Grain. The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie. Adapted from Smitten Kitchen. Can be r...

My OCA student blog. Comments on report No. 1. April 2, 2014. I have received my tutor report for the first assignment of the Drawing 1 module. Full of constructive criticism, the report came across as a wake up call. Working towards a degree requires much more commitment and enthusiasm. I seem to misunderstand hat the course really requires when it comes to certain exercises. The above image is in the course material. This image is what I have produced for the Supermarket shop exercise. Fill in your det...

My OCA student blog. Monthly Archives: April 2014. Exercise Exploring colour media. Project Exploring colour media. April 4, 2014. Inks, art pens and dip pens. Inks are very expressive, have the advantage to be predictable (art pens) and non predictable (dip pens). If soluble, ink is very forgiving, but non soluble inks are permanent and they cannot be easily erased. All mistakes will show through. Pen and wash is a beautiful way of depicting any subject. This is one of my favorite techniques. For this p...

My OCA student blog. Comments on report 1 ( continuation). April 3, 2014. As a result, I will have to redo the assignment pieces, which my tutor advised me to send in the same time with the work for assignment 2. How do I feel about this result?
