標高約１４００ｍの石灰石の台地が、東西に２５㎞広がっている。 草原に足を踏み入れると、いろんな山野草が目を楽しませてくれるが、中でも一番のお気に入りはヒメユリ。 以前は大野ヶ原でもたくさん見られたらしいが数が減ってしまい、今では天狗高原と姫鶴平の中間に位置する、五段城周辺が容易く見ることの出来る唯一の場所になってしまった。 来年、再来年とまた花を咲かせて楽しませてくれることを切に願い、山をあとにした。 自宅の前に聳える標高９７０．５ｍの壺神山の中腹にある樫谷集落は、自宅から２５分程の小さな集落、標高は５２０ｍ。 前回訪ねたのは収穫の時期、比較すれば・・・. 朝夕の冷え込みは厳しく、温度差が激しいため、良質のとても美味しい棚田米が獲れる。 口で言うのは容易いが・・・. ようこそ、ようこそ。 またおいで。 休日、何の予定もない時、ふらりと出掛けられるのが小田深山渓谷。 自宅から車で１時間３０分、滑床や皿ヶ嶺へも同じ時間で行くことができるが、気軽さという点ではここに勝るものはない。 渓谷への起点には、食事や宿泊の出来る小田深山荘があるので、安心でもある。
