Story of the bal-maidens. Story of the bal-maidens. The mining family who lived in this cottage probably worked at either Levant. Mine, both of which are a short walk away and open to the public. They provide a fascinating window into the industrial past of Cornwall. Levant has a working steam-powered beam engine, while Geevor, which closed as recently as 1990, offers tours above and below ground. It also has a very interesting museum, and a very good café with views out over the cliffs.

Today these are tastefully complemented with attractive furniture and modern conveniences to provide everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Heating is by night storage heaters and the wood-burning stove. All electricity is included.

Story of the bal-maidens. The cottage is in the small village of Trewellard, in the far west of Cornwall, about 1 mile from the coast. Sitting between farmland and moorland, there are sweeping views westwards to the sea. Walkers can indulge in any number of magnificent coastal or inland walks. Dedicated hikers will find St Ives a feasible day's walk along the Coast Path. Where you can take a swim, have a beer or lunch at one of the pubs or restaurants, or watch the surfers. And the Barbara Hepworth Museum.
