Author: Balm of Gilead Garden. Herbs – Week #4. Caraway is a hardy biennial herb that will enjoy full sun in the fall. The stems will reach between 18″-30″ that will provide a white flower and produce a seed used to flavor candy, cookies, cakes and breads. The thick like roots can also be eaten. Caraway flowers in the summer and does not transplant well so sow the seeds in a place you want it to grow. You can either harvest the seeds for replanting or let them fall in place to reseed on their own. 1 cup ...

Herbs Series – Week #1. Today I would like to talk about herbs and what I am learning about each one of them. Each Monday I will make a post for the next several weeks about a particular herb with detailed information. Oregano, Sage, Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Santolina, Artemesia, Tarragon and Fennel prefer soil that is dry and rock (light soil). Herbs generally do not require fertilizer. Improve the soil structure twice a year by adding organic material. Herbs that can be started from cuttings in the f...

Cindy's Country Mix. Do it yourself projects, watercolor. September 13, 2016. I made a paper pattern, then pinned it on some pretty fabric scraps that I had. I sewed the pieces together, then pinked the edges. I made three so that I can just throw them in the wash when needed. Easy, peasy project. I think I may have used them, as a child, to gasp cut paper. But, considering that and their age, they still work quite well. Here it is in use! And that was my project for today. Have a great day! I have been ...

Cindy's Country Mix. Do it yourself projects, watercolor. September 5, 2014. Currently, our kitchen looks like this! I neglected to keep you updated with the progress. My husband and son are preparing to install a pocket door. The door will replace this section of removed wall. The door will lead from the kitchen into my future studio. This is how my studio looks today. It’s basically a storage area! Thanks for stopping by. You can also chat with me on Facebook. Or follow me on Pinterest. You are comment...

Cindy's Country Mix. Do it yourself projects, watercolor. Not My Husband’s Favorite. August 12, 2014. Plumbing is not my husband’s favorite thing to do. It tends to lead to more work. Pipes get corroded and sometimes break while you work on them. Or other miscellaneous problems occur. That was not the case this time as he moved our pipes from the floor to the wall. We found that our exterior walls are built with 2×6’s. Since we live in Phoenix, that is a good thing. Or follow me on Pinterest. August 12, ...

Cindy's Country Mix. Do it yourself projects, watercolor. September 13, 2014. Do you like to tour model homes? Being a licensed real estate agent in the State of Arizona, I regularly take classes to keep my license current. Recently, the classes have been in some beautiful model homes. Let me say a little about the builder. The company is Meritage Homes. In Arizona. Meritage also builds communities elsewhere, but I am familiar with only the homes built in the Phoenix area. An organization that supports f...

Cindy's Country Mix. Do it yourself projects, watercolor. South and West Walls. August 11, 2014. Now that we have caught up considerably, let me show you what we are currently doing. A few days ago, my son came over and helped to demolish the south and west walls of our kitchen. I emptied all of the cabinets and put the items who knows where? Anywhere that I could find space, that’s where! Then the cabinets came out. My husband and son work well together and had the cabinets out in a very short time!

Cindy's Country Mix. Do it yourself projects, watercolor. December 12, 2014. I think three months is a long time in between blog posts. Don’t you? Wow Time just flies by for us. Indeed we have been working all of this time. This post is meant to catch things up a bit. The kitchen is coming along nicely. It is completely usable and just needs a few finishing touches, like light rail, crown molding, and a FLOOR! Thankfully, the floor is going in tomorrow. The dining room is waiting for the floor and trim.

Of the sinner. In the way suggests one is now on the path of the sinner. They have tasted of the counsel, like...Every...

Balm of the Earth Holistic Homestead
Balm of the Earth Holistic Homestead. Balm of the Earth Holistic Homestead. Farm Tools of the Future #1: the Broadfork. June 4, 2015. June 4, 2015. Elisha and Elizabeth Somerville. How do farmers get to this place? Is it by taking loans to buy time-saving equipment? Since we all know that time is money, it makes sense to save time, but what would one do with their free time? Go outside to get some fresh air? Go work out at the gym? Go to the beach to get a tan? How is this possible? If you don’t be...
