Launch of the competition. After a long period of turmoil, Afghanistan is beginning its second decade of democratic governance. The emerging government has had to manage ongoing instability while taking steps to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, which has been devastated by over 30 years of conflict and neglect. Further exacerbating these rebuilding challenges is the geographic isolation and limited access to resources of some parts of the country.

M2R Arquitectos is an Argentinian architectural firm founded in 2011 by Manuel Martínez, Franco Morero and Nahuel Recabarren. We have received national and international awards and our projects have been published in the specialized and general press. Currently, we are a team of professionals located both in Argentina and Spain. Our work covers the integral building process from the design stages to construction.

The Bamiyan Culture Centre design competition was an open international architectural design project competition conducted in one stage, organized in accordance with the UNESCO-UIA Standard Regulations for International Competition in Architecture and Town Planning. Participation in the competition was free and open to all without restriction of country of origin. The competition opened on 15 November 2014 and ended on 23 January 2015.
