Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Also from Crossen. Stable Integration: how our assumptions shape reality. May 26, 2011. I just finished reading The Warmth of Other Suns. Isabel Wilkerson’s incredible book about the Great Migration. It deserves its own post (or three), but I’ll highlight one overlap here. (Also, please don’t go back through the archives to see how long it has taken me to finish it. And if you do, you should blame my semester and not the book). 8230;the persistent…misconcep...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; The real “other side”. Stable Integration: how our assumptions shape reality. May 26, 2011. Well, really Benjamin Barber via Crossen. Contrast these two questions:. 1 Do you want a drug rehabilitation center in your neighborhood? 2 Do you think that the community needs drug rehabilitation centers, and if so, would you accept one in your neighborhood if you were persuaded that the policy process by which the locations were chosen was participatory and fair? Mine S...

http://tarenwanderer.blogspot.com/2010/12/west-african-reading-list.html
Saturday, December 25, 2010. West African reading list. Here's what I read while I was gone. There's not a single thing on this list that I didn't like and wouldn't recommend, but I've tried to rank them within each category in order of what I suspect general interest will be :-). NON-FICTION (choices were largely determined by what was available on Kindle). The Shadow of the Sun. You Must Set Forth at Dawn: A Memoir. Shady Practices: Agroforestry and Gender Politics in the Gambia. Extremely informative;...

Taren Wanderer: November 2010
http://tarenwanderer.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 25, 2010. Just sent the email below to all of you who have pledged or donated. Happy Thanksgiving! Also, Kalila - and all of us - are famous! The Indianapolis Recorder wrote about her and our work for their lead article. Yesterday, as I held a very rambunctious Kalila in my arms at the counter of the American embassy in Ghana to confirm her visa appointment for next week, I couldn't help but marvel at the network of amazing people around the world who have come together to save her life.

Taren Wanderer: Cultural & political influences in West Africa
http://tarenwanderer.blogspot.com/2010/12/cultural-political-influences-in-west.html
Sunday, December 19, 2010. Cultural and political influences in West Africa. A few notes on my observations of cultural and political influences on West Africa:. Germany, for some reason, has a lot of well-marked development projects in the Gambia. Not sure why. I met a real live person, who spoke enough English to have a real conversation with,. Who had not heard of Barack Obama! In Ghana, several times I was shown massive construction projects (usually sports stadiums) that were introduced with the sen...
