Barbara's Thought of the Day

Barbara's Thought of the Day. Saturday, July 15, 2017. It feels great to be back to blogging after being away from it so long. I never intended to take such a long break, but one thing lead to another, and I found myself in the midst of some interesting life changes. Not only did I face some intense challenges to my health, but I also moved on from a very difficult relationship. What will you do this summer to be creative? Where do you find inspiration for your own work? Barbaras Thought of the Day.

Barbara's Thought of the Day: February 2015

http://barbarasthoughtoftheday.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Barbara's Thought of the Day. Monday, February 16, 2015. Ready for The Big Day. Finished up our clay Valentines last Thursday just in time for the big day. Kids were thrilled to have a token to take home to give to a special some one. No time for glazing. I set out palettes of liquid watercolors to apply right onto the bisque. You could also use box watercolors if you like. I have a couple bottles of glitter watercolor that added a little sparkle to the art though you can't really see it in the photos.

Barbara's Thought of the Day: March 2015

Barbara's Thought of the Day. Sunday, March 29, 2015. Isn't she a beauty? Fourth graders are looking at Henri Rousseau.I love his work, don't you? We noticed how he loved visiting the botanical gardens and drawing from observation, so we tried it ourselves using houseplants we found around the school. Then we used our imaginations to create something tropical. We used sharpies to outline and markers to fill in with a bright and consistent color. Barbara's Thought of the Day. Links to this post. Barbara's Thought of the Day. Saturday, January 11, 2014. We used four bags for our book. The bags have to be hole-punched one at a time. I folded a piece of paper cut to the size of the binding and punched it twice for the children to use a template. Finished with a an easy rubber band and popsicle stick binding. Barbara's Thought of the Day: Pasta Towers

http://barbarasthoughtoftheday.blogspot.com/2015/02/pasta-towers.html

Barbara's Thought of the Day. Friday, February 6, 2015. One 88 cent box of spaghetti, One $1.49 bag of mini-marshmallows. Twelve kids. Two hours of after school fun! These children seriously could not get enough of this activity. The structures were a little "touch and go" getting started as the marshmallows were soft and unstable. But once they got going we noticed the marshmallows firmed up a bit and building proceeded more quickly. Barbara's Thought of the Day. February 7, 2015 at 12:48 AM. Georgetown...

A Twig In Water: Monkey's Fist Tutorial

http://atwiginwater.blogspot.com/2013/07/monkeys-fist-tutorial.html

A Twig In Water. I am using this space as a home front for my ideas and tutorials. Wednesday, July 10, 2013. One of my students is very interested in knots. He was kind enough to help me make a tutorial of his Monkey's fist lanyard. While searching for interesting knots to tie,the monkey's fist appeared. After many attempts this is the easiest and fastest way I have found to do this. I tried this elusive knot many times and then stumbled upon the idea of making a jig to hold the golf ball while wrapping.

Mrs Crosbie: More POST IT drawings

http://mrs-crosbie.blogspot.com/2014/12/more-post-it-drawings.html

Wednesday, 3 December 2014. More POST IT drawings. We then started working with a number of post it notes with groups of curved lines like little rainbows or "nobows" as the children were calling them because of the lack of colour. Sometimes we added the post it notes to a larger piece of paper and extended the lines creating linear patterns and helping the children with their pen control and allowing them to express their own designs. Sometimes I find it hard to use anything else. Meet Me At Mikes :.

Mrs Crosbie: POST IT portraits

http://mrs-crosbie.blogspot.com/2014/12/post-it-portraits.html

Wednesday, 3 December 2014. It's not a new lesson I have seen it done before. But it really works so well and gives the children such confidence at a crucial time in their artistic and intellectual development . It still amazes me to think that these children have achieved such a high standard of draftsmanship at such a young age. Some fun was had with some of the spare pieces too! And some of the younger classes recreated another masterpiece, would Van Gogh have been proud too? View my complete profile.

Mrs Crosbie: November 2012

http://mrs-crosbie.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, 15 November 2012. Could you GET any more colour? Sometimes colour theory can be such a task. And Class teachers are soon expecting Christmasy or wintery stuff for the walls - too early! So I devised a colour wheel with a snow flake design. The class were given a folded 1/6 of a circle (yes more maths), and cut a simple snowflake segment. this was used as a template to draw a complete snowflake. (The children thought that they could reuse the template to make reindeer antlers.). These 6, 7 and 8...

Mrs Crosbie: April 2015

http://mrs-crosbie.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 1 April 2015. THE CORBIE part II. THE CORBIE" part II. The Corbie, such a good poem and such a great subject. I love crow images, so full of life and movement. The children appreciate the sini. Ster qualities that the bird represents. It's also a great way to learn the words of the poem. The class then created a crow shaped stencil (tricky cutting) and using soft drawing pencils the scribbled through the opening. It is important that the pupils do not outline the shape of the crow but let ...

Mrs Crosbie: December 2012

http://mrs-crosbie.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 5 December 2012. Mrs Crosbie's New Coat. Its not often that I get to draw with the infant department but when I do its such a treat. To try and get some of these pupils to add bodies, legs and hands to their figures I arrived in my shiny new coat and creeper boots! And this is what they made of me! I folded up the paper into three so the children were encouraged to see where the head, body and legs were to go, and we did each bit a stage at a time to give them confidence. Meet Me At Mikes :.

Things Fall Apart

Thursday, December 6, 2007. Things Fall Apart Questions. Okonkwo’s virtues were to be a successful man, and not to be like men who resembled women. Okonkwo’s faults were to contradict men who had no titles, and killed their spirits. Yes, when a man says yes to his chi, his chi agrees as well. Okonkwo became very fond of Ikemefuna. Ikemefuna was treated like everyone else to Okonkwo, and was treated with a heavy hand. The importance of family is emphasized in the uri ceremony by inviting all family, and k...
