Get involved: Appleton Makerspace. What the heck is a BarCamp and why do we want one in the Fox Valley? A BarCamp has been described as an "unconference". A conference where the topics, sessions, speakers are all determined by the people who show up. Sort of like the concept of a Wiki applied to conferences. Another way to think of it is a do-it-yourself conference. You want to discuss the merits of Social Media? Scribble your topic on a piece of paper, tape it to the "Session Wall" and see who shows up!

Get involved: Appleton Makerspace. Why I love BarCamp. Think back to your earliest encounter with the World Wide Web. Do you recall that sense of wonderment, intrigue, and mystery about what this Internet thing had in store? What does this have to do with " BarCamp. For this reason, I heartily encourage you to seek out the next BarCamp you can attend and do so. If you can find yourself in the Milwaukee, WI area this weekend (Oct 1st-2nd 2011), I'll see you at BarCampMilwaukee. Comments powered by Disqus.

Connecting And Expanding The Community Of Microcontroller Users In Humboldt County And The North Coast'. Saturday, August 9, 2014. On a cool, foggy, northern California Saturday morning in the Beachcomber Cafe in Bayside I read a Silicon Republic article titled " Ireland’s first internet of things hardware hackathon happening in September. That article sparked the desire to start the search for an event cofounder, a core team of hackathon organizers, and diverse group of sponsors for a Humboldt hackathon.

Subscribe in a reader. We’ve all heard “Fail Early, Fail Often”, and hackathons are a fun way to work out ideas, put time into side projects, and gain experience with APIs and SDKs that are not pertinent to my day job but might be interesting and/or useful in the future. Here are some I’ve done, all successful in their own way:. 8211; helps prescreen for eye cancer with a mobile phone. 8211; Where’s lunch? Lighter, Stronger, Sleeker, Better Windscreen! – Appleton Makerspace

Create, Inspire, and Share – A Community Workshop. Lighter, Stronger, Sleeker, Better Windscreen! The original windscreen for our airplane, although functional, had some issues. It formed cracks from coming into contact with the front cabanes, was made from heavy .120″ thick acrylic, let a lot of air pass close to the pilot’s head because it was too narrow, and had sharp corners that weren’t aerodynamically friendly. Paper pattern clamped in place. Finally, I cut out the polycarbonate and riveted it dire...
