Freedom Never Tasted So Good. New Hampshire has a short growing season, so many of our projects are attempts to extend that as well as we can. For example, we built a very simple greenhouse under the deck of the house, which we use for starting seeds, raising worms, and occasionally housing baby chicks. We would like to construct some hoop houses, which would allow us to get some plants in the ground a little sooner. Everything is done naturally, without chemicals or pesticides. The gardens provide f...

Freedom Never Tasted So Good. We started raising worms when Emily gave Neil a little mail-order kit for Christmas. Worms double in number every couple of months, and now we have our own little worm farm in the greenhouse:. Picture of worm bin]. Picture of spraying worm tea around some healthy looking plants]. We sell the castings in bags, and in a concentrated form as ‘Worm Tea’. We’ve seen amazing results from adding both to the soil in our own gardens. Leave a Question or Comment Cancel reply.

Freedom Never Tasted So Good. Rabbit meat is as healthy (higher in protein than most meats, and lower in fat) as it is delicious. Our rabbits are mostly New Zealand Whites and Californias,. But we have a few other varieties as well. You can buy whole rabbits ready to cook or freeze: skinned and cleaned with the bones in. We breed our own rabbits, and they breed… well, like rabbits! We’re experimenting with tanning the hides,. June 9, 2013 at 10:05 am. June 10, 2013 at 2:36 pm. Thank you for your inquiry!

Freedom Never Tasted So Good. Two oxen, Chris and Trip, came with the property when we bought it. Though trained to work, they were mostly kept as pets. Chris and Trip have both since retired to freezer camp. But since Chris died some years before Trip, we found him a companion, Red, a registered Scottish Highland, with a bit of an attitude to match his pedigree. They got along well, foraging on grass and shrubs during the most of the year, and eating hay during the winter. We have since sold Red.

Maple Syrup « Bardo Farm

Freedom Never Tasted So Good. Many people tell us that ours is the best-tasting syrup they’ve ever had. We think it’s because we make it the old-fashioned way. We tap trees,. Hang buckets on trees,. Collect the sap by hand (with help from friends! Picture(s) of us collecting]. And boil it down in an evaporator. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make a single gallon of syrup! So to make that happen, we go through a lot of wood,. Picture of wood on side of shack]. Leave a Question or Comment Cancel reply.

Freedom Never Tasted So Good. We raise Cornish Rock Cross chickens for meat,. And a mix of New Hampshire Red, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, and Leghorn chickens for eggs,. All our chickens are free range, which means they get to choose what they eat, and when they eat it. You can taste it in the meat, and especially in the eggs – the yolks are richer, with a bright yellow color and a flavor that you just don’t get in store-bought eggs. At night they can roost in houses that we provide,. So if you make a...
