Barging in Europe

Every European summer, for three months, we explore the rivers, canals and towns of Western Europe in our 18m barge, Yavanna. Yavanna is a English wide boat and was built by Pickford & Arnold in Yorkshire. Her first owner who had her built, was by profession a cabinet maker which resulted in the wonderful interior. All the cupboards are made from cherry wood and the tongue and grove ceiling and walls are from Cedar.

Barging in Europe: Entertaining on the deck

http://bargingineurope.blogspot.com/2010/06/entertaining-on-deck.html

Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Entertaining on the deck. We entertain and eat our meals on our wooden deck which can take quite a few people. Our outdoor furniture folds down and extra chairs can be stored in the front hold. This happy group on The Midi came for drinks at 5pm and left at midnight. Barging in Europe: 2010-05-30

http://bargingineurope.blogspot.com/2010_05_30_archive.html

Tuesday, June 1, 2010. This photo was taken in Maarssen on the beautiful Lecht River. We were waiting for Zanna and David to arrive by train so that they could spend a week with us. Our dutch bikes are leaning against each other on the grass. They are wonderful to ride and so much better for our backs. Vicki and Max Cooper, Perth Western Australia. Entertaining on the deck. Barging in Europe: Carved wooden insert

Monday, May 31, 2010. This carved design is like a vent between our bedroom and the saloon and is near the pot belly. Maybe it is there to allow the heat into the bedroom. The Hewitts barging in France 2010 - 2017

The Hewitts barging in France 2010 - 2017. Map of our journey. Sunday, July 2, 2017. On our way to Dry dock at St Jean de Losne. We decided that we should get the boat surveyed and the hull repainted as it is some years since we last had it done. We had tried to get a booking at Atelier Fluvial in St Jean de Losne over the last couple of years. However due to floods, canal breaches and locks breaking, their schedule had become very disrupted and it was impossible to get a booking. When we decided to buy ...

The Barge Company has closed

Very sadly, after twenty wonderful years, The Barge Company is no longer. Marie and Mark have made the very difficult decision to retire from barging, for family health reasons. We are sure you will understand that in such situations, health must come first. We wish to thank all of our wonderful past clients and barging friends and colleagues from the bottom of our hearts. In the meantime, we send you all our very best wishes for many more wonderful barging adventures on the canals and rivers of Europe!
