Medidas tomadas no início do Governo Collor levaram à desocupação da área Ianomâmi pelos garimpeiros, além da destruição de um grande número de pistas que serviam de apoio às frentes de garimpo. A área passou oficialmente a pertencer aos Ianomâmis (homologação). A foto abaixo foi tomada no ano de 1979, no baixo curso do rio Auaris, que junto ao rio Parima, formam o rio Urariquera.
