We expect to stop and resupply approximately 25 times while on the AT – that's about once every five to ten days. Although it is possible to travel into towns much more frequently (often every two or three days), these stops tend to be time and money sinks since it's difficult to resist the temptation of a meal and a bed for the night.

03/20/11: Tips and Tricks for Thruhiking. Here are some practical tricks for thruhiking or backpacking. I have listed on my Modern Caveman. Mental preparation was more important to our overall success, but those handy tips were really helpful to some day-to-day enjoyment. 04/25/09: "Medicine on the AT" Presentation. Barley and I presented a talk about medical issues on the AT last week to a group of doctors and medical students interested in rural practice. It went great! 04/11/09: Utah Trip 3/27 - 4/5.

This journey really began about 11 months ago, in March of 2007. I was stressing out about planning my fourth year of medical school when Brent turned to me and said,. Ldquo;Why don't we hike the Appalachian Trail instead? It's taken a bit of juggling, but we've made it happen. I've put off graduation until 2009, Brent's put his computer work on hold. I've been studying AT geography with the same fervor I once devoted to Human Anatomy,. While Brent's turned in his keyboards and routers for flint and steel.
