From the Garden Bench. Friday, May 1, 2015. Why One has Insurance . or. This is SO How I Did Not Want to Spend my Day Off! Remember our new - well, nearly new - hardwood floors? We had them installed just over four years ago. [Here]. They looked a lot like this . Two evenings ago Mitchell heard water dripping . Turned out to be the hot water line from the water heater to the kitchen sink. And, it was gushing, not dripping! Pulling up the warped boards. Is that even a word? Sunday, April 26, 2015. We made...

From the Garden Bench. Sunday, April 19, 2015. It started off simply enough. Things are coming up nicely now. The plum bloomed last week and is already gone. Lilacs and wisteria are blooming next door. The dogwoods are open and the azaleas right behind them. The viburnum coming out. All in all, things are looking good and the weather has finally moved into spring-mode. Can you see where some critter has eaten the blooms, but left the leaves and stems? Nice clean teeth marks! Azaleas and a hosta. 66 Squar...

From the Garden Bench: The To Do List for Inside
http://fromthegardenbench.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-to-do-list-for-inside.html
From the Garden Bench. Saturday, June 27, 2015. The To Do List for Inside. In April, my office looked like this:. OK It was a mess, but i could run a small corporation without getting up except to file. There's nothing I can say. Mitchell never met a horizontal surface that he didn't love. As a double office it has served us well - first, just a place for each of us to settle to surf the Web, or pay bills, or write letters (ok, email). You know, just stuff,. For a couple of months i used a folding table.

From the Garden Bench: A Quiet Sunday Morning ... You Know Where
http://fromthegardenbench.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-quiet-sunday-morning-you-know-where.html
From the Garden Bench. Sunday, July 12, 2015. A Quiet Sunday Morning . You Know Where. After 10 days of blistering mid-90's with high humidity (good weather to stay inside and curl up with a book), it was in the 60's this morning and the garden was the perfect place to be. I love to get out there before the first direct rays of the sun hit the garden. I'm lucky that a line of very tall trees two yards over give me an extra 20 minutes of shade before the sun crests them. The first dahlias bloomed this wee...

From the Garden Bench. Saturday, May 16, 2015. Ding, Dong the Pond is Gone! You remember the pond . that cool oasis that I dug in 2007 so that Mitchell would have a nice place to recuperate from knee replacement surgery. The place he could not get to because he was not allowed to walk on grass for three months. That place. Pond - July 2009. When it was first created, there was a crabapple tree nearby that provided shade for a glider so that one had a place to sit and enjoy the fish and the water lilies.

From the Garden Bench. Friday, May 8, 2015. Altho we have three entrances - a "formal" front door, a side door and a back door, 90% of our guests come and go thru the side door, which opens directly onto the driveway. We use that entrance almost exclusively. Over the years the railings had gotten loose and some of the decking had warped, so it was time to repair or replace it. Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Is anyone surprised by that? No I thought not.]. Mitchell loved the tomato sauce, but we were out of it b...

From the Garden Bench. Monday, May 18, 2015. The Pond is Gone - part 2. When I put in the pond, I also created a seating area so that one could actually sit and look at the fish. With the pond gone and a new sitting area to replace it, the "old" sitting area needed to go, too. The crabapple tree was behind the glider in the summer of 2009, but died a couple of years later. Granted, this was taken in early March before anything started coming up, but you can see that it was a pretty barren place to be!

From the Garden Bench. Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Too Many Irons in the Fire! Any dreams i might have had of sitting around in retirement eating bonbons and reading the latest hot new beach novel have been dashed, as my "To Do" list gets longer and longer. The days of "Wednesday Workdays" have been replaced with "Everyday Workdays" as i try to catch up on all the things that need to be done. But there are currently three on-going projects keeping me busy. Office Conversion to Music Room. The alternatives ...

From the Garden Bench. Saturday, May 30, 2015. At Long Last . Today is the first year of the rest of my life . retirement! I can pull out all the cliches and I may need to go search out some of the bumper stickers, but the reality is that the day I have awaited for so long finally arrived at 3:00 yesterday when my co-workers and boss gave me a nice little low key send off and - sent me off! This is my new office. Breakfast served daily and cocktails if it's not raining. Remember the recent flood. Touches...
