The Burnett Gazette: Fortitudine Vincimus

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Sunday, April 14, 2013. By endurance we conquer." This was the motto Ernest Shackelton adopted when he led a rag-tag group of men 1200 miles across the Antarctic seas in small, open, life boats after their expedition vessel, rightfully named the Endurance. It's a motto that we've adopted in our family in an effort to get through the crushing grief of these last few months and nobody embodies it more than Darc. You Burnetts are inspiring!

The Burnett Gazette: March 2012

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Thursday, March 22, 2012. When I asked Cole what he learned about in church recently, all I could get out of him was something about hunting and capturing a Leprechaun. He quickly changed into something green and put a hat on his head for protection and insisted that Keith and Ally follow suit. Even though he wasn't feeling very well at first, Keith eventually got into the fighting spirit with his green fighting gloves and his green shirt.

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Thursday, March 21, 2013. Brent has been doing his fair share of traveling this month for work, so the kids and I have been doing our best to entertain ourselves. Luckily, Cole transformed himself into Dierks Bentley for an afternoon and graced Ally and me with a concert. He also covered a little Creedence Clearwater. It was awesome. A picture of the rock that rests at the CCA's caring cabin. A close-up of the rock in our flower garden. As fo...

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Friday, May 24, 2013. Boston Marathon 2013 Recap. Brent and I at the finish. I'm barely standing upright. My signature on the sign at the Expo. At the Expo, after a red-eye, waiting to check into our hotel and crash! I think I was supposed to be carb-loading, but I just had to sneak in a dark chocolate tart with raspberries. There's fruit on it, at least, right? At the finish, looking less tired than I felt. So, anyway, I spent the first few ...

The Burnett Gazette: December 2012

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Thursday, December 13, 2012. Let there be lights. As is customary every Christmas season, we headed to Zoo Lights again this year with some friends and Aunt Chelsea. Chels is our official family photographer- one of her many talents. We rode the train first. Keith LOVED riding the train so we had to do it first. Why is it that our kids spend more time playing on the statues of animals than enjoying the real animals at the Zoo? This is what Co...

The Burnett Gazette: August 2012

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Thursday, August 23, 2012. Today we learned that despite the many battles that Keith has won over the last year and a half, our sweet little boy will ultimately lose his war with cancer. The news is crushing. We continue to believe in and hope for a miracle in his final hour, while simultaneously praying for the strength and understanding to accept the will of God, even if it’s not our own. The Quick Brain MRI didn’t show any emergency ...

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Sunday, February 24, 2013. Recently, we met some friends and went to OMSI. Cole and Ally were so good. Brent and I often describe our life now as "painfully easy". And it's true. It's so easy to take Cole and Ally and go do things. We hate the easiness of it because it means Keith isn't here. Easier is not always better. Never dull around here. Links to this post. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Half-naked and Almost Famous". Cole and Ally rece...

Circulating from Portland to Boston and everywhere in between. Monday, June 18, 2012. This race also allowed me to feel like our lives were starting to get back to a new normal now that Keith's treatments were over. It was my way of showing cancer that it can't ruin. For an overpriced race photo that I will never purchase, click here. Aunt Darel helped the kids make this welcome home poster for me. The PICU has strict visitor standards, but Keith was so excited to see Cole and Ally and Grandma Smart and ...
