Sunday, 31 December 2017. A tale of two writers. As some of you know or by now have guessed, I have written two series, one the Eden Paradox, a science fiction series, and the other a spy thriller series, under the name J F Kirwan. Having finished both series, the question I find both my 'halves' being asked, is what next? But by now I'd started another science fiction story (I don't sleep, you know that if you read my blogs), titled ' When the Children Come. And After the children. It is as much about u...

Takes place in a post-WWIII Earth approaching environmental collapse, the UN replaced by a weak New World Alliance, most governments and Titan Corporations left licking their wounds a decade after the War which almost consumed the planet. After all, you just make it up, don't you? Just goes to show how wrong can you be. I tried literary fiction, but was a natural disaster at it, so returned to my first love, science fiction. Write what you like reading. After various writing groups, notably with Jen Dick, I got. When I'm not writing, I'm either working (my day job), which is preventing mid-air collisions (keeps me busy! Sunday, 18 May 2014. Eden's Endgame - Teaser #1 - space battle. As regular blog readers may know, as well as finishing off the E den Paradox. Series, I'm also writing a diving thriller ( Sixty-Six Metres. Since diving is a passion of mine, so I'm currently in the Indian Ocean doing some 'research' (aka holiday - I took the photo). But I'm also editing the manuscript of Eden's Endgame. The last book in the Eden Paradox series, and thought I'd give a taster of what's to come. Okay, off to dive a wreck.

Sunday, 22 March 2015. Resurrection Protocol - Eden's Endgame. I thought aliens might do it smarter. Again, I thought, aliens would be smarter. I was always fascinated by the idea of terraforming, transforming barren planets into habitable ones, seeding them with life. But what if you could use terraforming for another purpose, a military one? Extract from Eden's Endgame. And yet they were dead, gone, after who-knew-how many million years of existence. The Queen didn’t acknowledge. Louise watched the sec...

Jen and Dimitri have been sent to retrieve a relic from an ancient civilization believed to be extinct. Pierre and Ukrull are in orbit above the tomb planet, a little nervous in case Qorall has tracked them. 8220;Do you remember them, Ukrull?

Saturday, 18 October 2014. Finished my final edit yesterday, and I just sent the manuscript of Eden's Endgame to two of my proofers. After that it goes to the publishers. It was a bit of a Herculean effort to finalize it, after two years of writing and editing, and tying up everything from the first to the last book. I hope the readers will find it a fitting end to the Eden Paradox saga. It will be available throughout the galaxy by Xmas. Monday, 6 October 2014. Space battles and tactics. Written as a se...

Monday, 26 January 2015. Fighting in Science Fiction. When I grew up watching Star Trek, the outcome was often decided by a fist-fight or brawl at the hands of Kirk and Spock. Even as a kid, I thought, come on, really. When I read Iain Banks' Excession, I thought now this is more like it, space battles fought in microseconds with ship minds controlling the battles way faster than humans ever could. Louise’s eyes narrowed, as if she recognised him, though they’d never met. Two more steps a...Guns ripped o...

Sunday, 26 April 2015. The first books that got me into Science Fiction were Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. It was the mystery and its scope in all its galactic grandeur that captivated me, and of course how expertly Asimov let it unfold across the trilogy, so that finally we understood the grand plan. Spectacular effect, and many scifi films now go for it given the power of computer generated graphics (remember the floating islands in Avatar? Second, the wonder can be enigmatic, plausible but never f...

Saturday, 30 August 2014. Music to write by? I normally write when there are no distractions, e.g. between 4am and 7am. Music can distract me most of the time, so I lock myself away and turn off the wifi and my phone. But sometimes a piece of music or a song I'm listening to encapsulates a character, a scene, or a mood, so I listen to it several times, and then write. It's in the eyes of the children. As they leave for the very first time. And it's in the heart of the soldier. It's in the face of a mother.

Sunday, 13 July 2014. Eden Paradox Characters #2; Vince. One of the characters I get asked about a lot by fans is Vince. Is he coming back? In terms of what he looks like, and maybe how he behaves, in my mind I always imagined Ed Harris. From some of his earlier films such as the Abyss, which was actually the inspiration for the undersea chapters in The Eden Paradox, but also his performance in The Rock with Nick Cage and Sean Connery. 8217; The ‘ D. 8217; stood for destroy. 8211; he judged it was too la...

Monday, 11 May 2015. Imagine a chess game played to win or lose an entire galaxy. If you step back from the human involvement in the story, this is the basic premise of the finale to the Eden Paradox. Series, Eden's Endgame. Two incredibly advanced aliens, Hellera and Qorall, are fighting over the Milky Way, Hellera to save it, Qorall to destroy it. And it's not the first time they've played. Two billion years ago, Qorall lost, and an entire galaxy was destroyed. He wants revenge. I called it Endgame, be...

THE MAN, HIS MUSIC AND HIS MEMORY. Becoming a legend is something good musicians do without trying, and one such was Romford’s own Bob Marks. A unique character full of enthusiasm and love which he spread around like magic dust to everyone he encountered. Singer, Ukulele player and instigator of achievement in others, he came up with ‘you can do it’, long before President Obama. Unedited Barry | your always a little disappointing in person because you cant be edited
Your always a little disappointing in person because you cant be edited. February 13, 2013. The other day i caught myself smiling as i walked home after dropping the kids off at school, i wonder what others thought when they looked at me walking along smiling to myself, i wonder if they thought i was laughing at my own jokes….that wouldn’t be unusual, i don’t see any point in telling a joke that you don’t think is worth laughing at yourself. This is what my parents have shown me time and time again.
