The site at Barstobrick has been inhabited for over1500 years when an ancient Iron Age Hill Fort was built on Barstobrick Hill. The Hill now boasts Neilson’s Monument, erected in 1883 to commemorate the life of James Beaumont Neilson an inventor whose hot blast process helped improve the practice of smelting iron. Neilson became a wealthy man; he lived and died on his estate at Queenshill where we now have holiday cottages and lodges for sale. Brilliant visitor centre, lovely cakes! Karen McLachlan, Fife.

Garden Barstobrick Visitor Centre
http://barstobrick.co.uk/garden
Work has just started on the walled garden which is next to the three star holiday accommodation. Half of this project will involve restoring the garden to its Victorian splendour with a newly constructed garden room as its focal point. At the opposite end we’re keeping the luxurious lawn where we can put up our new marquee. When the garden project is complete it will be the ideal location for weddings, birthday parties and other celebrations. Watch this space for progress reports. Karen McLachlan, Fife.
