It is safe to assume that the acquired stores are going to be the better sited, higher turnover stores. Which suggests that cash flow is going to be high. Monday, 25 March 2013. Laura Ashley demands 10% price cut. Laura Ashley is reported to have instructed suppliers to reduce prices, even for products already ordered, by 10%. Laura Ashley said it had "very strong and long-term relationships with our suppliers and always have done" according to the BBC report. This follows recent news that John Lewis asked its suppliers to reduce prices by 5.25%. I'm afraid that in this tough economic climate, the strong get stronger, and the weak fall by the wayside.

Wednesday, 10 April 2013. Morrisons is reported today to be cutting costs, resulting in 700 back office positions being at risk. The positions are in the cash office, and Morrisons are looking to introduce machines to count cash in their place. It is surprising that money is still counted by hand, and it seems a logical investment by the company. However it does raise questions about how much investment has been deferred in the past, and how well equipped the company is for the future.
