The Pied Kingfisher (Bonte IJsvogel), is een vogel die je regelmatig ziet in Gambia. Mannetje (dubbele borststreep) en vrouwtje (enkele borststreep) zijn onafscheidelijk als ze op zoek zijn naar voedsel. Ze "helicopteren" wat rond boven het water totdat ze een prooi zien en duiken dan omlaag, recht op hun doel af ( zie ook: Wikipedia. Het leek ons dan ook het perfecte symbool voor onze huwelijksreis! Omdat er nog steeds negatief reisadvies 5 geldt voor Mauritanië wijken we waarschijnlijk af van deze planning. Vermoedelijk besteden we wat meer tijd in Marokko en reizen we zo snel mogelijk (2 a 3 dagen) door Mauritanië. Dag 1 za Vertrek Amsterdam richting midden Frankrijk. Bij "A'dam-Dakar-Challenge" denkt iedereen natuurlijk aan de "Parijs-Dakar-rally", een echte rally waarbij het enige doel is om als eerste de finish te behalen. De A'dam-Dakar-Challenge is echter een endurance waarbij het erom gaat dat je hoe dan ook de finish behaalt zonder snelheidsovertredingen, zodat het voertuig na aankomst aan een goed doel geschonken kan worden. De deelnemers proberen daarnaast ook nog eens zoveel mogelijk geld voor een goed doel te genereren middels sponsoring.
