Any public educational agency in the State of California is eligible for membership to Bay Area Schools Insurance Cooperative (BASIC), subject to limitations contained in BASIC’s Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement and Bylaws. A public agency is defined in its governing documents as public school districts, county superintendent of schools, community college districts, public education joint powers authority, or charter school.

Liability Program

BASIC’s Liability Program provides broad coverage in the areas of General liability, Auto liability, Professional liability, and School Board and Employment Practices liability. Members may select a self-insured retention of $250,000; however, other self-insured retentions are available based on underwriting on funding requirements. BASIC self-funds or “pools” the difference between the Member Self-Insured Retention and $500,000 of coverage for any claim.
