Bastrop Bayou Watershed - Wastewater Management. Inadequate wastewater management is the cause of almost 40 percent of the bacteria in the watershed. Many of the local residents are served by septic systems (OSSFs) that can contaminate ground and surface waters if improperly designed or poorly maintained. City sewer systems can also lead to bacteria in waterways as a result of line breaks, improper operation and maintenance, and even vandalism. To maintain and extend the life of your septic system.

Bastrop Bayou Watershed - Project Background. Bastrop Bayou is a popular recreational destination for water skiers, boaters, anglers and birders in Brazoria County. Much of the land in the Bastrop Bayou Watershed (the land area that drains to the Bayou and its tributaries) is currently used for agriculture (rice farming, cattle grazing and aquaculture), while its residents typically live in small cities and towns (Angleton, Danbury, Richwood and Demi-John), rural subdivisions or homes along the Bayou.

Located along the Texas Gulf Coast 50 miles south of Houston, Bastrop Bayou Watershed contains a mix of agricultural and wooded areas with an abundance of wetlands along the lower reaches of Bastrop Bayou. The bayou plays an integral role in the county’s commerce with agriculture, including seafood products, bringing in more millions of dollars to the local economy. Area = 217 Square Miles.
