The Toisan (Taishan) area in Guangdong is unique for its architectural style, called diaolous. I love the direction in this one. colors, textures, shapes, awesome. September 23, 2009 at 7:03 AM. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Tiananmen 20th Anniversary in Hong Kong. June 4th, 2009- 20th Anniversary of Tiananmen Square Massacre. Today I am exactly 26 and a half years old, and I'm in Hong Kong, missing that cool summer breeze (it's hot and rainy here) and thinking a lot about China, Tiananmen, and my future. My Chinese language skills are equal to that of a 6 and a half year old. It's progress. The artwork is all done by artists around my age, who don't have any memories of Tiananmen either. Their res...

J Tippins: November 2008
http://jtipps.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 9, 2008. Chinese Painting: Sunny Bamboo. This bamboo no good, too sharp at corner. This bamboo stalk too high. See mine? Must be lower than other bamboo. You paint too many leaves, only 3, not 4! Then he proceeds to circle all the areas on my painting where my bamboo has deviated from his. My bamboo must conform to the status, no individual bamboo here please! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

J Tippins: July 2008
http://jtipps.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 28, 2008. More figure drawing at Spring Studio. Minerva talked about an exercise in which the artist draws a large "envelope" around the character to better understand the relationship (distance) of the parts in a pose. An interesting drawing exercise to try. Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Sketch of home sweet home in BK. I forgot to add in our resident mouse, Theodore, who likes to eat sushi wrappers. Eskimo and Pie: Eskimo Poses 01. Some more sketches of Eskimo.

Monday, August 24, 2009. Gong Gong Comes to New York. Imagining a more mythic journey of my Grandfather when he left his home in China for better opportunities in the United States, and specifically New York City. Labels: Hong Kong project. Thats an amazing illustration Jenn! Im glad to see some of the work youve been doing in Hong Kong. Youve learned a great deal about traditional chinese painting and starting to merge it with your western education. Good job! September 7, 2009 at 9:26 PM.

http://jtipps.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 20, 2008. In the wake of cleaning up all my things for the big move, I found these in one of my old school notebooks from college. I loved loved loved this show growing up. I really like the loose quality of the poses. Enjoy! Tuesday, August 19, 2008. And They Kept On Playing. Ast week I decided to spend some quality time with my Dad before I head off to Hong. And good will between teammates and between the teams. The Amigos watching their teammates from the dugout. The Pinch Runner, Bob.
