Battlefield House was the homestead of the widow Mary Jones Gage and her two children, James and Elizabeth, who journeyed to the area from New York State in 1790. Mrs. Gage received a grant of 200 acres and in exchange was required to swear allegiance to the Crown. Battlefield House was constructed first as a rough-hewn log house and in 1796 this was replaced by a storey-and-a-half frame house. Download the whole Field Trip Planner for printing. Saturday, May 8, 2010. Saturday Night Fun - Matrilineal line. I came across a couple tweets tonight about an exercise from Randy Seavers who's blog is here. Here is our mission! 1) List your matrilineal line - your mother, her mother, etc. back to the first identifiable mother. Note: this line is how your mitochondrial DNA was passed to you! 2) Tell us if you have had your mitochondrial DNA tested, and if so, which Haplogroup you are in. What a great activity on the eve of Mothers day! Links to this post.

http://familyhistoryfunforall.blogspot.com/2010/05/open-doors-hamilton.html
Saturday, May 1, 2010. Today was a day where local areas of interest were open to the public free of charge. It was a great opportunity to visit some places you might not otherwise go to see. I was able to go to three things today. A baby in tow and rain hindered going anywhere else but still it was a great day. Here are the places we went too. Check out this site for an explanation of what Janes walk is. Maybe there is one in your area on Sunday, or maybe you can set one up in your town next year! Satur...
