Date: June 12th, 2016. Location: Commercial Drive, Vancouver. We are happy to say that again this year the Thalassemia Society will have an information table set up on Commercial Drive. Our objective is to raise awareness so we will again be handing out our brochures, talking about Thalassemia, and welcoming new members for support. If you have never come down before, it's always a great event to walk down Commercial Drive. Great food, music and more. Please call Serafina at 604-274-1052.

Thalassemia is an inherited disorder of the blood. There are different types which vary from a mild condition with no symptoms to a severe and particular form of anemia in which the body cannot produce enough healthy red cells. Because it is red blood cells which carry oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body, a shortage of these cells means that the body is deprived of oxygen. Proper treatment includes routine blood transfusions and other therapies. How does it affect the child?
