The Sad Bear: crashedwagon
http://www.sadbear.net/2010/11/crashedwagon.html
November 1, 2010. On the day I learned of the demise of my beloved Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon I found these photos on Craigslist. Four years ago, when I bought the Crashwagon on a Spring Break visit to Chicagoland, I thought it was one of the most ridiculous and fitting purchases I could make. (I'd been considering an El Camino in Jonesville just prior to the wagon.) Seeing this green machine with the Delorean doors made me feel at peace. Roadmaster absurdity lives. But the Roadmaster is pretty clear.

January 19, 2013. 52 McGs: The best obituaries of Robert McG. Thomas Jr. In writing the obituary of a weather expert, he wrote that there was "no well-established meteorological career path to follow." The same might be said about writing obituaries. But if there is a path to follow, it may be the one taken by Robert McG. Thomas Jr.: equal parts police beat, society news, and sports reporter. And, perhaps most importantly. A veteran rewrite man. Mary Bancroft, spy. Anton Rosenberg, a hipster ideal. Leadi...

Actor, Bookworm, Instructor, Blogger. Indeed, Jack had already begun to think of the beanstalk as his. Beanstalk, as if it were a close friend or pet, instead of the beany cloud-busting belfry, the grandiose green garrison, the lovely legendary leafy looming legume- that it was.". A line from Jack and the Beanstalk. Which was not in the original script but was added (and cut) during rehearsals. Well Jack and the Beanstalk. Opened this morning. First public show, tonight. Actor, Bookworm, Instructor, Blogger. Most stories have a hero who finds. You make your past your past.". Joshua Radin, "Brand New Day". Granted, not all teens leave their summer jobs in the fall, but most do. I guess that's all some people want in life, but I never want people to say or think that of me. I think that's what people originally meant by saying that someone was "going places.". I think a lot of people know they live in a free country but don't live free lives. They don't go places. ...Rehea...

Actor, Bookworm, Instructor, Blogger. Philip Roth, The Humbling. Really need to stop buying books on impulse. Not that I need to deliberate for weeks and fill a special jar labeled "next book money," but two days ago when I walked into the Bookworm. In West Omaha the first title that jumped at me (actually it was the humongous "ROTH" printed above the title) I removed from the rack and stuck it under my arm, and there it stayed until I laid it on the checkout counter. Anyway, The Humbling. Snobbishness t...
