Tour of the Church. Click on any photo to view full size. Although not the Newland choristers, this recording from the same period is very much as they would have sounded. A school is p lanned. It may seem incongruous to have a choir school in an Almshouse, and indeed the Newland Choir School is unique in this respect, but Choir Schools had become de rigueur for Tractarian worship. If choristers were to sing the daily services, as they were at Newland, a residential choir school was considered necessary.

Tour of the Church. Early History of Church. 8203;Click on any photo to view full size. The first church at Newland was dedicated to St Michael, c1215 and rebuilt in the fifteenth century. When it was demolished in 1865 the chancel was rebuilt to become the mortuary chapel of the Almshouses.
