Simply Living: And ladybug makes two
http://www.sherryboas.com/2015/07/and-ladybug-makes-two.html
Rowing Through The Mist. Thursday, July 30, 2015. And ladybug makes two. This Queen Butterfly is sipping nectar from the blossoms of tropical milkweed while nearby someone else is having a feast. Can you find the ladybug seeking out aphids? Lots of action on this humble weed. With so many aphids on the plant stems, the ladybug was probably similarly sated. Aphids on tropical milkweed. A couple more shots of the Queen sitting atop her milkweedy throne. July 30, 2015 at 6:41 PM. August 1, 2015 at 4:32 PM.

Simply Living: A model butterfly walks the red carpet
http://www.sherryboas.com/2015/07/a-model-butterfly-walks-red-carpet.html
Rowing Through The Mist. Friday, July 31, 2015. A model butterfly walks the red carpet. Wildlife encounters sure can happen at unexpected times and in the oddest of places. I was planning to take supplies out to the car this morning but before I even stepped through the doorway, I saw something that stopped me in my tracks. I turned around, put down the items I was carrying and picked up my camera. Limenitis arthemis strutting her stuff on the 'red' carpet. What lovely spotted wings. After a few minutes ...

Simply Living: It's U-pick scuppernong season!
http://www.sherryboas.com/2015/07/its-u-pick-scuppernong-season.html
Rowing Through The Mist. Monday, July 27, 2015. It's U-pick scuppernong season! It’s almost scuppernong season and I’m looking forward to picking some grapes. Amber picking muscadine grapes at Lake Apshawa Farm and Nursery in 2006. Fruit of the vine. A century passed before evidence of the grape’s cultivation appeared in the log of another explorer traveling along Scuppernong Lake in North Carolina. The fruit’s association with that body of water stuck. Ever since, the large, round, s...North Carolina ma...

Simply Living: Look what we found at the beach...
http://www.sherryboas.com/2015/07/look-what-we-found-at-beach.html
Rowing Through The Mist. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Look what we found at the beach. Over the past year, Ralph and I have seen quite a few unexpected sights at New Smyrna Beach. There was the day we spotted a manatee swimming at Canaveral National Seashore and the time we saw a stingray lolling about in the shallow water along the same stretch of unpopulated beach. Making music with the waves. Yup, it was a guy playing a banjo. In the water. With waves (albeit small ones) crashing all around. I'm Sherry Boa...

Simply Living: The red pentas is that one plant that can do it all
http://www.sherryboas.com/2008/08/red-pentas-is-that-one-plant-that-can.html
Rowing Through The Mist. Monday, August 4, 2008. The red pentas is that one plant that can do it all. First appeared in Orlando Sentinel August 4, 2008). If I had to pick one plant - one flowering plant - to place in my yard, I'd choose Pentas lanceolata, also known as star flower or star cluster. It's available in lavender, white and multiple shades of pink, but my choice would be a red pentas - full size, not dwarf - and I'd be sure to position it right outside my window. To propagate pentas, all you h...

Rowing Through The Mist. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Look what I found after 10 days away. When Ralph and I came back from our recent trip, one of the first things I did was check my gardens to see what had changed. Not much could happen in just over a week, right? There was so much to see! I knew avocadoes were beginning to develop before we went away but I didn't expect them to grow as big so quickly. They're not ready to pick yet but will be soon and when they're ready, my - will they be good! We weren't ...

Bamboo, Books, Wildlife and other Trees: Bamboo diary: Fargesia scabrida 'Asian Wonder'
http://uros-bamboo.blogspot.com/2012/03/bamboo-diary-fargesia-scabrida-asian.html
Bamboo, Books, Wildlife and other Trees. Monday, March 19, 2012. Bamboo diary: Fargesia scabrida 'Asian Wonder'. I have a new bamboo. In the beginning of March, I went to an opening of a new 'home and garden' center, that was opened near my village, just to see if they have anything interesting there. Of course, I only checked out the garden part. The croud was enourmus. But I finally managed to come to the plants section, where I saw some bamboos. Of course I madly flew there. They were all Fargesias.

http://thebabymakesfour.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
A weekly record of our first pregnancy with twins. and the days that follow. Friday, June 13, 2014. Baybay and Baybee: Week 116 (10/23-10/29). It's been so nice to have a break from guests staying upstairs. We only had one guest this week, for a couple nights over the weekend. Mama and Papa arrive on the 30th and then we don't have anyone else booked until after they leave on the 9th of November! A lovely block structure left by our last guests of the week. They decorated the cookies with sprinkles!
