Favorite Books for Young Readers 2010 – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2011/01/17/favorite-books-for-young-readers-2010
Favorite Books for Young Readers 2010. January 17, 2011. By popular demand, the list is back! Although, it’s a bit simplified this year. In the past. I’ve included images of every book, annotations for each book, and sometimes even a. To each book’s Amazon.com page. You know what that is? About five hours’ worth of work. And considering that I’m only 2 days away from Baby Katie’s due date, five hours is a commitment I just can’t make right now. So fire up those library cards! Clever Jack Takes the Cake.

Blue in the Face – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2008/02/03/blue-in-the-face
Blue in the Face. February 3, 2008. This past Wednesday, we had friends over for dinner — a sweet couple and their two-year-old girl. The best part of having dinner friends is that we get to have real dinner conversation. With real, breathing, adults. Who actually talk about something BESIDES Star Wars. However, in order for this clever conversing to occur, we needed something with which to distract the kids. A Secret Weapon, if you will. Like a big ol’ box of crayons! How grownup is THAT? However, all o...

The Rest of Venice – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2014/04/26/the-rest-of-venice
The Rest of Venice. April 26, 2014. September 14, 2014. There are lots of odds and ends about Venice that didn’t fit in with the broader travelogue narrative I’ve created. Like, how on earth do I fit in a mention of the ‘Most Beautiful Bookstore in the World”? Especially because . . . well, it isn’t. It’s certainly the most touristy bookstore I’ve ever been to. They only sold used moldy Italian-language books, but the shelves were almost all constructed out of old boats and gondolas. It is customary to b...

Favorite Reads of 2009: Fiction – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/favorite-books-of-2009-fiction
Favorite Reads of 2009: Fiction. February 28, 2010. February 28, 2010. Yeah, I know. Finally. After about a zillion kick-in-the-pants reminders from my friends, I’ve gotten around to creating my list of favorite fiction for young readers from 2009. Take note: this is not a list of the. That’s what these are. Yes, that means lots of glaring omissions, most notably. When You Reach Me. I’ve got no beef with. When You Reach Me. I also have to say that if you are a parent,. Now, Here We Go! With some of the t...

Island Hopping – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2014/04/25/island-hopping
April 25, 2014. June 10, 2014. One thing we noticed in Venice is that all the buildings have thick wooden shutters painted a dark forest green. No slats, just solid wood. It seemed unusual to us at first, but then we discovered the benefits: total darkness in our hotel room. Which allowed us to sleep off the jet lag in one fell blow:. Eleven straight hours of snooze time. I don’t think we had gotten so much sleep since the kids were born. One hour for each year of parenthood. Here, just to orient you:.

Epossumondas – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/epossumondas
June 23, 2011. June 23, 2011. My mother-in-law’s birthday is today, and she loves receiving a grandchild-produced home movie as a present. Last year we made Sleeping Beauty. 8212; a stunner of backyard theatrics if ever there was one — but this year we decided on simpler fare. Eleanor and William chose Coleen Salley’s adaptation of. A “noodlehead” tale. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, yes that is real butter melted on Wimmy’s head. He had a bath directly afterwards. Posted in Culture and Media. ZoeR...

Venice is Like Disneyland – Casa Camisas
https://casacamisas.wordpress.com/2014/04/23/venice-is-like-disneyland
Venice is Like Disneyland. April 23, 2014. June 10, 2014. Eleven years of graduate school. Finally over, right? Brian and I had planned for years to take some kind of special trip to celebrate the end of the M.D./Ph.D/residency/fellowship slog. Something far away, without kids. So, after throwing darts at a globe for a while . . . And investing in a little blue roller bag . . . Rick Steves’ Italy. At hand, which we referenced as fervently as the Bible. We could manage our way around, right? Venezia is ea...
