Two or three of these short hops brought us from Three Oaks through Congleton and on to Henshalls Bridge (80). Our favourite mooring on this bit has to be in the Biddulph Valley Arm just before the Congleton Embankment. On the way up we came across this line of what described itself as Amphibian Fencing,. This is the last high point on the Gritstone Trail before it ends in Kidsgrove....

As a way of saying goodbye to all our northern 2CV friends before we head off south down the Macc, we drove over to Bradford for the Aire-Cooled Alley Cats Last Ever Curry Night. Another warm friendly welcome from friends that we’ve known for years and a fantastic curry to boot. They even presented Dave with a birthday cake! We now have these delightful additions to our furnishings.

We have not cruised for over a year due to personal circumstances and a partial refit of the boat. Everything is now sorted out and we are able to use Blackstone again. The ramblings of Narowboat Blackstone and it's crew. Thursday, 1 April 2010. The saloon all stripped out ready for the stretch, just the floor to take up. Out of the water, into the workshop. Windows out, ready for the cut. The inside sealed up to keep the rest of the inside clean. Strengthening bars in place so that the boat doesn't warp when it is cut. First cut, through the roof. And then the sides. Very neat cuts. Staggered to add strength. Almost 3 metres longer! The base plate and one side in place.

We could just get short term licences from BW whenever we want to cruise their waters, but in the past we have found that they worked out more expensive. Anne flew over to help us celebrate for a few days then, on the night itself, the whole family had chipped in to buy tickets for us, along with Frankie, Harry and Anne, to go for an evening of proper French cabaret at L’Ange Bleu. What a fantastic evening. The next time we visit little Thibault will have arrived!
