Living in and gardening in Houston, Texas has been a complete change. I am catching up). I already had marigolds planted thro...

The Beekeeping Librarian: Seed/Plant Order for the 2015 Garden

http://beekeepinglibrarian.blogspot.com/2015/02/seedplant-order-for-2015-garden.html

Saturday, February 7, 2015. Seed/Plant Order for the 2015 Garden. I've just put in my primary seed/plant order for my first full year in the Texas garden. I went with Baker Seeds. Since I love their variety and I've always had a good experience with them. I will also be supplementing with some locally-purchased plants, seeds I already have, and possibly a small order from Bountiful Gardens. See my choices below. All photos are from the Baker order site. King of the Garden Lima Bean. Montana, United States.

I picked up the box at the Whole Foods near my house. Everything is organic and super fresh. My week one share consisted of:. Year Ro...

Beekeeper Log | Beekeeping in Austin for Fun

Beekeeping in Austin for Fun. Beekeeping Winter activities and an offer! December 5, 2011. Winter is blasting in Austin, Texas, with much-needed rain as well (I am thrilled that the land I have, might have captured a good amount of it), and the bees in my four beehives behind our sun room have become quiet. How about if you could get your own honey in this summer from your own hive in your backyard? Don’t that sound enticing? March 22, 2011. March 20, 2011. Thank you for landing on our site and for staying awhile, and check back soon to see what's new. And don't forget to hug a beekeeper today!

The Beekeeping Journey | My Adventure with Bees

My Adventure with Bees. Links, phone numbers, and emails. Today I got to check on my bees with my mentor. This time I used my own smoker, having filled it up with leaves beforehand. When I got into the hive, I found that the bees have already begun to work on the top hive body, although they produced some burr comb because I must not have put the slides close enough together. All the cells were built drone sized. An exercise in running from bees, or, how not to work your bees. Another Visit to the Bees.
