In 1908, explorer Ernest Shackleton. Set off to reach the South Pole. He and his team reached Cape Royds. Ross Island, in January, and were forced to spend an entire winter there, waiting for the weather to clear. While they were there, they built this hut, which is still standing to this day. Much of the interior of the hut remained as they left it, with iron pots on a wood stove, medicine bottles and canned food on the shelves. And recent investment and conservation efforts.
