Bees in Brittany: Nuc Roof protection and late spring.

http://beesinbrittany.blogspot.com/2015/03/nuc-roof-protection-and-late-spring.html

A blog in the year of a bee keeper. Friday, March 20, 2015. Nuc Roof protection and late spring. Lots happening here and struggling to get all my equipment finished in time for the season, which thankfully, is a little late in warming up. we have a nagging easterly wind, but i don't really mind, its the first "longish" dry spell we have had all winter and its great for outside work! I may even remove more frames and substitute for new ones if we suddenly get in to a heavy flow and the bees have no space.

Bees in Brittany: Queen substitution. Old queens from production colonies, replaced with last years queens from nucleus colonies.

http://beesinbrittany.blogspot.com/2015/04/queen-substitution-old-queens-from.html

A blog in the year of a bee keeper. Monday, April 6, 2015. Queen substitution. Old queens from production colonies, replaced with last years queens from nucleus colonies. So, we finally are starting to get some decent weather. We have had a week of very windy and cold conditions, worse than the previous 2 weeks before. However bees are in great shape. I will still probably harvest a little resources from my production colonies. May be one frame of bees and brood, but not carrying out an artificial sw...

Bees in Brittany: July 2014

http://beesinbrittany.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

A blog in the year of a bee keeper. Saturday, July 26, 2014. Artificial swarms before the dearth bites and an unusual home for a swarm! In to the next phase. So, the nectar flow comes crashing to an end! The chestnut trees have well and truly finished, their catkins are falling. Time to make artificial swarms and make use of the high population of bees. Classic chestnut fronds and the developing nut. So what about these if they are honey supers on the hives, well these get moved too. Empty ones are r...

Bees in Brittany: October 2014

http://beesinbrittany.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

A blog in the year of a bee keeper. Monday, October 6, 2014. Well as i write this, were experiencing the first of the autumn gales! But it is October, and we've past the equinox without any wind and rain whatsoever, so i am not complaining. Took this video only two weeks ago, how its all changed since then! Also the hive would be generally be in a mess, with much reduced foragers doing a lot less work than adjacent hives. Always compare with other and see what the majority are doing at a certain time...

Bees in Brittany: From nothing to Queens, Swarms and Honey in 3 weeks.

http://beesinbrittany.blogspot.com/2015/04/from-nothing-to-queens-swarms-and-honey.html

A blog in the year of a bee keeper. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. From nothing to Queens, Swarms and Honey in 3 weeks. Where does one start! Well, its been pretty busy over the last 3 weeks. First it was the black thorn, then oil seed rape started, now its the Cherrys, Acers and the wild Broom, together with the start of the Hawthorn, its an amazingly strong spring. So why are our Colonies so strong this year : this is my theory. But thats all still to come. I will be starting my harvest this weekend, as sp...

Labyrinth Farm: December 2012

http://labyrinthfarm.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

We are jumping on the sustainability band wagon and trying our hands at growing some of our own food. Neither of us has ever done much in the way of vegetable gardening, so this is a real experiment. The name of this endeavor came from the meditation labyrinth. It shares space with. Sunday, December 30, 2012. And of course the greens are doing great, fresh in my morning smoothie every day. Planting – April, 2015. Canning beans. →. May 4, 2015 · 3:15 pm. Last summer we had some delicious peaches. I stuck 14 pits in one of the potato dirt bags after reading around on the internet to see what would actually work. They need opportunity to freeze. I realize that it looks tiny in that huge pot, but I don’t expect to move it for a few years. Filed under Fruit and berries. Planting – April, 2015. Canning beans. →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The name of this endeavor came from the meditation labyrinth. It shares space with. Thursday, November 8, 2012. Looks like the bees are dead. Did we not feed enough? Were they poisoned by the corn growing down the road? Do we try again next year or sell our gear thinking this area is bad for honey bees?
