Winter feeding. - New to Bees?
http://www.beesmater.com/winter-feeding.html
I felt sure that my bees would gather all that they needed in the short time that they had and e. I had asked Phil Chandler to check my website for inaccuracies and w. Hen he watched my last video he could see that the colony did not have the resources to survive. As a new beekeeper it is very hard to judge how much honey they need, what to feed them and how much. Watch here http:/ vimeo.com/14809559. And here http:/ vimeo.com/14883999. And here http:/ vimeo.com/15298824. Have a look at.
Honey. When? - New to Bees?
http://www.beesmater.com/honey-when.html
The big question that we all want answered. Luckily it is paired with the other big question. How much honey do I leave for the bees? There is no doubt that the bees make honey for one reason and one reason only. The survival of the hive. The quandary is, "How much and when? Phil Chandler proposes that we take the excess honey in mid spring. If you read Phil's book it will explain why. I know I will.

Which Bees? - New to Bees?
http://www.beesmater.com/which-bees.html
Living in the UK brings special challenges to beekepers. Bees in general like warm, dry conditions with a plentyfull supply of nectar, polen and water. Consequently the Western honey bee is more suited to life in Britain than any other species. My original plan was to have my hive filled with British Black bees. Our indigenous species. Try as I might I could not find a nucleus anywhere. As time was pressing I settled for the next best species which is the Carniolan honey bee. I confess that I read up on ...
Which Hive? - New to Bees?
http://www.beesmater.com/which-hive.html
This is a tough one. I searched the internet for a week or so before I decided. Unfortunately I only found information that pointed to a traditional framed hive. So that is what I bought. While I was waiting for my shiny new hive to arrive I bought Ted Hooper's book "Guide to Bees and Honey". This is a great book and I learned a great deal from it while I was waiting for my bees. The hive duly arrived just after the Easter weekend with the bees to follow in May. I wish I had. A frame with natural comb.

Gothic flowerchild | Clumsiness, curiosity and cows
Gothic flowerchild - Clumsiness, curiosity and cows. Breathing in and around. I have been locked out of my blog through a mixture of laziness and confusion – no time to investigate what thing I had broken while playing. During the last six months we have had a lot of fun and been through a lot of changes. February 10, 2015. And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. August 14, 2014. Thou shalt not bore. When they are ‘adults’? The pressure i...

It is one of the fastest growing interests on the planet due to the controversy surrounding Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and agricultural pesticides. But beekeeping is also one of the most complex forms of animal husbandry. Our goal is to help make a truly fascinating subject accessible not only to existing beekeepers, but also to anyone interested in bees and the role they play in the ongoing survival of the human race. No Bees No Food No Future. Keep bee-killing pesticides off our fields this year.
