The Ranown Cycle: Philosophy
http://ranown.blogspot.com/p/philosophy.html
The philosophy of the Ranown movies is that "A man should do what a man should do". Other maxims are :. A man oughta be able to take care of his woman. A man should have something of his own, something to belong to. To be proud of. (When a man gets half way he ought to have something of his own to belong to and be proud of.). Some things a man can't ride around. (There's some things a man just can't ride around.). A man can cross over anytime he has the mind. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Ranown Cycle: About
http://ranown.blogspot.com/p/about.html
An Unknown Now, He Made Westerns Of Spiritual Depth. By RICHARD T. JAMESON. Published in NY Times : September 3, 2000. Not that tragedy is the keynote for Mr. Boetticher — a former matadorand lifelong bullfighting aficionado — or conventional heroism either. His movies, with their circumscribed arenas and ritual progression, are cannily tailored to the limitations, as much as to the strengths, of Randolph Scott’s appeal. 8221;They et ‘im.”. http://ranown.blogspot.com/2011/01/westbound-1959.html

The bad guy, Mace, who works for Confederate agent Putnam, is one of those complex Ranown bad guys. He also steps in to defend the lady. In the last scene Hayes goes in to town looking for Mace. Unlike, other Ranown shown...
