About | Befriending Faith
https://befriendingfaith.wordpress.com/about
Developing a Friendship with God. This blog is about finding our center in God. My undergrad years were spent at the University of Notre Dame and I hold a Masters degree in Pastoral Ministry from Loyola University New Orleans, so I often take my view of Christianity and spirituality from a Christian Catholic perspective. One belief that I take from Catholicism is that we are all children of God and that he has a place for each and every one of us in the car. Climb on in as we journey home.

Sarah's Fab Day: Want It :: Apple, Lemon and Gin Shandy
http://sarahsfabday.blogspot.com/2013/09/want-it-apple-lemon-and-gin-shandy.html
September 16, 2013. Want It : Apple, Lemon and Gin Shandy. I know I can't be the only wife who's already over football season. It makes me feel a teeny bit unloyal to my Sun Devils. But everything about it makes me feel a little meh. I saw these in the latest issue of Southern Living. In the Tailgating feature and they sound yummy. Mommy likey. Maybe a couple of these before the game will make it seem a bit more exciting. Apple, Lemon and Gin Shandy. 3 large Granny Smiths peeled and chopped. My faves: ho...
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Short, mostly unedited: The Nap
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2015/05/short-mostly-unedited-nap.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Monday, May 11, 2015. Short, mostly unedited: The Nap. Just a little while ago, my Danny boy was saying things like, "I hate this game," and, "I don't want to put that up. It's boring," and, "I am not tired! But he was tired. Was tired. And I told him point blank, "I'm going to set the timer, and you're going to rest with me for 30 minutes in Papa's chair.". I got him a cup of Cheerios. I read him. Sleepy Time, Olie. Great post, Hillary!
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Buck Up, Boy; It Isn't Normandy (guest post by Dad)
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2013/04/buck-up-boy-it-isnt-normandy-guest-post.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Buck Up, Boy; It Isn't Normandy (guest post by Dad). The first time my grandfather said those words to me, I must have been about eight years old and had no idea what the heck he was talking about. A place where everybody was named Norman? Nor can I remember now what it was that was causing me to complain - okay, I was eight - whine. Of a Krupp Arms 88mm that was aimed at me. No - whatever ailed me in those years ...
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: The Creek Floods (anniversary repost)
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2011/06/creek-floods-anniversary-repost.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Friday, June 17, 2011. The Creek Floods (anniversary repost). This story is based on actual events. It arrives here in semi-fictional form. So one year when the creek swelled with a massive amount of late spring rain to overrun its culvert and wash away the stones from the dirt road, you can see why, despite the danger of it, we ended up there - Annie, Nate and I. The creek's not over the bridge anymore, right, Dad? Dad put down his book.
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Santa and St. Nick
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2013/11/santa-and-st-nick.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Monday, November 18, 2013. Santa and St. Nick. On one hand, it is completely charming that my 11-year-old believes. On the other hand, I wish to tell him the truth about the spirit of St. Nicholas for the purely selfish reason of relieving the pressure on his dad and me. But then again.the other day I found myself contemplating certain gifts for my children, picturing them by the tree, and I thought, "That would be great! I don't know....
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Pie Pastry - Bah! (anniversary repost)
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2011/05/pie-pastry-bah-anniversary-repost.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Sunday, May 22, 2011. Pie Pastry - Bah! I'm taking this opportunity to say that these pies, the ones in this story that caused me such grief, turned out to be some of the best Thanksgiving pies I ever made. The past two days I've been in a hot place with pie pastry.and I don't mean the kitchen. Get yourself HOME.RIGHT NOOOOW! The kids were outside, and they came to the door, "Where's Papa? I was trying this new pastry recipe that's called...
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Family Music
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2015/07/family-music.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Friday, July 17, 2015. But my little guy hated his car seat and therefore hated the drive. Like his big sisters before him, he treated it like a torture device and cried inconsolably for most of the time that he was strapped into it. The flurry of family visits and family business that was sometimes comforting, sometimes heartbreaking but a necessary part of saying goodbye and preparing the funeral for Grandmama was hard on him. My heart ...
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Wupatki and the Grand Canyon
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2015/08/wupatki.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Thursday, August 6, 2015. Wupatki and the Grand Canyon. I feel badly for my city kids sometimes.often, actually. Ah, the life! En mi corazon.I am a country girl. (That's part grammatically-incorrect Spanish/part English, but that's how I think it in my head.). You can't take them with you. For our city kids who do not know what they are habitually missing. For days I searched the web with bloodshot eyes, scouring locations and cabins and ...
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors: Rare Family Meals and A Cooking Brother
http://nopensorpencils.blogspot.com/2015/06/rare-family-meals-and-cooking-brother.html
No Pens, Pencils, Knives or Scissors? Seeking The Prince of Peace. Thursday, June 18, 2015. Rare Family Meals and A Cooking Brother. When my siblings and I gathered in San Antonio more than three years ago, I had the opportunity to eat some breaded trout my brother Nate had pan-fried. It was so delicious that I moved past my comfort zone of poaching or baking, and I tried to replicate it in my own kitchen. My experiment didn't turn out nearly as well. I know you'll just tell me they're good. Her! When I ...

Befriending Life—Developing body and energy literacy
April 24, 2013. Full post ». Feeling one’s way forward. 8211; For years, I was struggling with the question of what to do.’ I would constantly look at different options, wondering whether I should do this or that, trying to figure out the best next step, always hesitating, reconsidering, doubting that I had done the right thing. It was exhausting. After practicing body meditation. And how do we build energetic strength? And until one has sufficient strength to feel what to do’ and discern ‘what wants to ...

Not the end of the world, just this blog. December 21, 2012. Well the world didn’t end today. But fall 2012 did. Today is the official start of winter. Luckily it is also the shortest day of the year and beginning tomorrow we will see the sun a little more each day. I have decided to stop writing. At least for now and in this space. And it turns out I just don’t enjoy being an anonymous pregnant blogger. We have a family blog and I may turn more to that so that I can be known and know my reader...When on...
