Obsolete Y chromosome? « Behind the Science Headlines

http://behindthescienceheadlines.com/2013/11/23/obsolete-y-chromosome

Behind the Science Headlines. Kate Széll investigates the best, the worst and the ones they missed! 23 November, 2013. The BBC news website is normally pretty good but it seems to be a little confused today. Researchers in Hawaii have reduced the number of genes on some male mice’s Y chromosome to a mere two. And, more surprisingly, they have shown that these mice are capable (with a bit of IVF help) of fathering offspring. Wouldn’t it have been better to point to that fact? Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Behind the Science Headlines. Kate Széll investigates the best, the worst and the ones they missed! The Blind Can See. 19 January, 2014. I don’t think anyone missed this piece of news and the only bit of over-hype I noticed came from the BBC and it wasn’t that bad. “Sight restored to partially blind man” rather implies that the man can now see perfectly which is not the case – but maybe I’m being picky. Behind the Science | Just another WordPress.com weblog

Just another WordPress.com weblog. December 16, 2012. The Geminid meteor shower, which I am sure you have heard about within the news, is caused by what is believe to be a Palladian asteroid with a rock comet orbit which makes it one of two of the only major showers that is not due to a comet. Every December you can see these and for the first time in ages you have been able to see it clearly within the United Kingdom and while I can talk for quite some time about this subject, today I am sharing a video.
