Behind the Skillet: September 2010

http://behindtheskillet.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 22, 2010. You may have noticed, it is now officially Autumn. I love this time of year - mostly because I love food. First of all, this time of year finds me cooking and preserving mad amounts of pumpkin. To use in some of my favorite pumpkin recipes. Naturally, I make a tasty snack with all those pumpkin seeds - spicy Pepitas. I put the pumpkin puree to good use in Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. Black Bean and Pumpkin Soup. And my very favorite of all. The Comfort Food of al...

Behind the Skillet: April 2010

http://behindtheskillet.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 22, 2010. Asparagus season seems so short and fleeting that I rarely do anything with asparagus other than roast it in olive oil or grill it. Both of those are delicious, sure, but I was getting a bit bored of the same old thing. Not to mention I kinda got excited when I saw the asparagus at the store and may. Have bought a little too much of it. Based loosely on Alice Waters' recipe in Chez Panisse Vegetables. 500g (1 bunch or 1 lb) White Asparagus, peeled and chopped. In a medium saucep...

Behind the Skillet: October 2010

http://behindtheskillet.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 25, 2010. When it comes to desserts - I'm not sure there is anything more popular than brownies and cheesecake. They make the menu at nearly every restaurant - and not just in the US either. They seem to have near universal popularity. So naturally, combining the two is just magical. Giving it an awesome Fall pumpkin-spice twist is even more magical. Really, I need to like seriously ease up on the sweets, but on a boring rainy Sunday afternoon who doesn't. When does that happen? 1/2 cup p...

Behind the Skillet: February 2010

http://behindtheskillet.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 26, 2010. I hate buying pre-made stuff at the store, don't you? I have especially broken myself of this habit since leaving the US as many of the convenience items I was used to I had trouble finding here in Germany. One of those things I hate buying pre-made is Marinara sauce, or just simple tomato sauce. Why not just make my own from ingredients that I like? Oh yeah, and also because its s uper freaking cheap. To make your own. 2 cans (400 g or 14 oz) whole tomatoes. 2 Tbs Olive Oil.

Not a Food Snob: December 2009

http://notafoodsnob.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 15, 2009. I haven't felt much inclined to post anything here since I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes just before Thanksgiving. To me, the holidays are all about baking, which I really can't do much of if I want to keep my blood sugar level steady. That whole "bake for other people idea"? Yeah, doesn't work for me. :) Can it be March yet? I need me some sugar! My grandma's annual Christmas party, however, gave me an opportunity to bake! Wouldn't you have done the same? These were...

Not a Food Snob: Never-Fail Chocolate Cake

http://notafoodsnob.blogspot.com/2011/04/never-fail-chocolate-cake.html

Thursday, April 14, 2011. I know, I know, two chocolate dessert posts in a row. Yes, this does reflect my current eating habits. Moving = stress = sweets. It's a formula that's always worked out for me. :). Hey look, I moved to a house that has decent lighting in the kitchen! And I finally figured out how to use the macro setting on my camera! Now if I could just figure out how to get my food to actually look. As good as it tastes! 2 t baking soda. 1 c boiling hot water. Not a Food Snob. Oooh, so pretty!

Not a Food Snob: Black Bean Brownies

http://notafoodsnob.blogspot.com/2011/03/black-bean-brownies.html

Sunday, March 27, 2011. All month, Deals to Meals. Has been singing the praises of beans. The recipes that have really caught my eye are the ones you wouldn't normally expect to see beans in: cupcakes, pancakes, and brownies. I decided it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, even if it seemed kind of strange. Subbing in pureed black beans for part of the butter to save a little bit of fat and calories and add a few vitamins? Sounds good to me! The link to the original recipe, and here is my edited version.

Harkness Happenings: Early arrival

http://raiderharkness.blogspot.com/2011/12/early-arrival.html

Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Well Kallum Julian surprised us all and came 11 days early! It all went very very quick. I felt yucky starting at dinner time and that progressed to lower back pain by 7pm. Was feeling contractions by 9pm and they just got worse and faster. Woke Kellis up at 1am and headed to the hospital. They didn't mess around and broke my water right away and he came shortly after. I only pushed 4-5 times. Completely opposite experience than with Kellis! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
