January 6, 2015. Book Review: Mort(e) by Robert Repino. Ever pick up a book, knowing even before you start that you're destined to love it? Ever have it exceed even those lofty expectations? Was sent to me several (many) months back. I'd been chatting with a PR person at SoHo Press about a different book I'd reviewed, and she mentioned Mort(e). It's about a war.with ants.and sentient house pets.". Or something like that. I was all, "Yes! Waging war against humanity? I mean, Them. Mort(e) by Robert Repino.

Leah Rhyne: Charleston Strong, Indeed

June 19, 2015. Charleston Strong, Indeed. The events at Emanuel AME Church on the night of June 17 are undeniably horrific. They are undeniably sad. Undeniably terrifying. Undeniably wrong. Yesterday morning as I awoke and as the reality of the situation (which happened less than 12 miles from my home in the Charleston suburbs) set in, I changed my profile picture on Facebook to a photo of the Ravenel Bridge (a landmark here in the city) with the hashtag, #PrayForCharleston, etched across the bottom.

Leah Rhyne: September 2014

September 23, 2014. Just for Funsies: Zombie Weapons. My parents just moved onto some land out in the country. They have horses, and want their horses to finally be able to share their address. Of course, no land is perfect, though, and their couple acres need to be cleaned up a bit before the horses can move in. My oldest brother, Jonathan, is here this week, helping to clear out some of the woody parts of the property. This is the view from their back fence. So of course I decided to help. Sure, the st...

July 22, 2014. Happy Book Birthday to Shauna Granger and Time of Ruin! Okay, everyone.what's my favorite part of writing? In unison now. It's the people! I love the other writers I've met along the way, many of whom I'm now lucky enough to call friends. Shauna Granger is among the best. She's super-spunky, sweet, supportive, and she's a great writer, too. She's also one of my critique partners (CPs in the biz) which mean we'll read early drafts of each other's work to provide feedback. Blue pushes to his ...

Leah Rhyne: December 2014

December 29, 2014. 2014: My Year in Review. I spent some time last month putting together a photo book for Zoe, compiling some of my favorite pictures from the past 12 months, writing "witty" captions, and sending it to a photo company for printing. When she opened it on Christmas morning, she was THRILLED! A whole book about HER? She sat there with it, with unopened presents still beneath the tree, for a loooooong time, loving the look back at her year. Out with the old, in with the new? By February I w...

May 26, 2015. So long, JO! You guys. I have news. News that made me.well, more on that in a sec. So Remember my JO? The fun little book I self-published last fall? The one about the girl who's turned into a monster a la Frankenstein? Well, I'm super excited to say that, almost a year after that fun, quiet little book launch, Jason Pinter at Polis Books. Has discovered JO, and he wants to take her, give her a facelift, and re-publish her as a bona fide YA novel! I've officially sold JO! Over the next year...

Leah Rhyne: Eyes Wide Open: Joe Clifford's Junkie Love
http://www.leahrhyne.com/2015/04/eyes-wide-open-joe-cliffords-junkie-love.html
April 22, 2015. Eyes Wide Open: Joe Clifford's Junkie Love. Picture this. It was night two of AWP's annual conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I sat in the back of a cab with my friend, Renee Pickup. Check out her gut-wrenching story, "The Grand Finale" here. As we headed out of Minneapolis' downtown to some creepy warehouse where a small publisher was hosting a small party. Up front, beside the cabbie, rode Joe Clifford. A San Francisco-based author and, well.let me keep going. Joe cracked up harder, ...
