I made it in! I found Domino's pizza and the extremely narrow street which follows. It's so narrow that I have to close my car's side mirrors to go through unscratched. Picking up my friends, it's time to see the light again! Now that there are people with me who live there, it's much easier to find my way out. I wonder if I will ever memorize these streets. So buildings, buildings, narrow streets, uphill, downhill, traffic light. What? Finally, a traffic light! I know where I am!

Beirut is constantly recycling itself through time; every few years, we are made to be nostalgic again for another thing lost. This recycling creates layers of memories that persist for as long as they are spoken of. Our project aims at mapping places that have 'died' and memories that only live within us, indulging in the mourning process and romanticizing the mundane in the Hamra area. The original route can be traced here. This project was developed during the rePLACE Beirut workshop in April 2011.

My home, my meeting point morning and night. The street makes me feel safe, the view out of my window used to be my favorite: in crowded Beirut an old house, villa, with trees that i used to see every morning evening or night, it inspired me: now gone, demolished to become a boring parking space. My escape Manara: the sea i grew up there Long Beach resort. My childhood, my summers even winters manara road where i escape and stop thinking, enjoy (walking/biking) the warmth, the sun brings me to life.

I wanted to create disruptions in the routes submitted by finding, improvising, or creating public places throughout them, places that encourage people to stop, relax, maybe interact or even play. Working around Hamra, I was able to distinguish three categories:. 1 existing places that are in use as public place (even if such was not their purpose or design). 2 existing places that are usable/improvise-able as public place. This project was developed during the rePLACE Beirut workshop in April 2011.

At one point during one of the discussions, Jad mentioned something about the need to build systems and structures so that we can break free from them. At the time I did not agree so much, as there is some part of me that always desires to find out how far we can just let things go, or to understand the limits of tolerance.
