Solo Piano with Improvisation. I used to play saxophone but a repetitive strain injury to my jaw made it impossible to continue. The thing I grieved most was the ability to improvise. It was natural for me to want to work towards this on the piano. A slightly folky vignette, with the same 3 sections in the head and solo: a pedal section (static harmony), a chromatic ascending/descending bit and then cycling major 7th chords. In 2013 I got together with Brazilian percussionist Tuca Milan. To work on some of my compositions with a view to recording and gigging. We got quite a way down the road with the project but then life intervened: my mum became very ill and I found myself juggling work and care, and Tuca became very busy with other projects. Belinda Braggins | Pianist, composer and songwriter
On Feb 24th 2015 I dislocated my left shoulder really badly. I came off my bike at speed and the shoulder took the full impact. I was left with peripheral nerve damage and no guarantee of full recovery. The prospect of never playing piano again filled me with terror. BUT the injury has made me do this.
